Companies Charging Fees for Paying Your Bill by Phone

If you need to pay a bill, you either do it online, via snail mail or by phone. Now many companies are starting to charge if you pay-by-phone, according to KOMO News.

Not everyone has Internet access so paying by phone is the most convenient option. For some, the idea of paying online can be scary because of spyware, scareware and viruses. How much are the fees if you pay-by-phone? $4 or more.

It's important to note that not every company is following the new trend. American Express, Sprint, Verizon and Nordstrom are the last pay-by-phone holdouts.

So many gas stations now take my credit card and hold it while the tank is filling. Seems unsafe to me to let the card out of my reach for so long...might my number be compromised? Thank you.

This is just another way to gouge the consumer.

I don't understand why companies are charging these fees. If you pay by phone, it saves the company postage, and paper. It's almost a punishment to the people who dont have a computer.
