Cashier Receipt Scams

Posted Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in Retail Stores/Products

There are three cashier receipt scams consumers should be aware of when shopping, according to KOMO News.

If you're paying with your debit or credit card, consumers should be watchful for cash-back withdrawals on your purchase.  Bad cashiers may add them, then take the money for themselves or give it to an accomplice next in line. If a cashier requests cash-back withdrawals, reverse them right away.

Before leaving the checkout line, take a quick inventory of your merchandise. If the cashier is a scammer, he or she may stashed an item under the counter which is most likely to happen when customers have many purchases.

Always double-check your receipt to see if items were scanned twice.

'Cashier Receipt Scams'... I found this article very useful. I'm aware of some of them and have experiences with scammer cashiers. I also want to add that when you pay cash, some cashiers keep talking with you and distract you or draws your attention to another subject. If they need to give you change back, by doing that, they make you forget about the change and you leave the store. Then the cashier keeps that change for himself/herself.This happened to me again after I bought two dozens of donuts but because I have many experiences like that, I asked for the change and the cashier took it from her 'hidden' place and gave it to me.
