Can't Always Trust User Reviews When Shopping Online

When shopping online, do you read user reviews? If so, you're part of the almost 80 percent of online shoppers that check user reviews. You might think that most of the reviews are coming from a typical shopper, but KABC warns that it's not unusual for those rave user reviews to be written by people who work at that company or who are paid to write the recommendations.

The rave reviews are particularly alluring since they're usually well-written, whereas naysayers leave such gems as 'omg these product is suck!!!11'.
Still, outside of being a little shady, are there any actual laws in place that regulate unbias product reviews?
