Foursquare.com wasn't for businesses. However since its debut, businesses have begun to see its potential, according to

Foursquare users can earn points and ranks by 'checking in' to businesses in New York, San Francisco and Chicago, using their mobile phones and share tips with their friends.
The real benefit for businesses is holding promotions for loyal customers who can prove their status using their phones. Foursquare is likely to surpass Twitter in the amount of users worldwide and has even partnered with corporate giants like Zagat, The New York Times, HBO, Warner Brothers' the History Channel, Bravo and Lucky Magazine.
