Blackberry Storm2 Hitting Shelves Soon

As the smartphone war heats up, RIM brings to the table the second version of its touch-screen Blackberry, the Storm. This time around, do you think they will take a bigger share from Apple and its iPhone?

The original Storm wasn't as successful as RIM had hoped. The main problems were the strange typing issue where the screen moved with each tap, no Wi-Fi, and a cramped vertical virtual keyboard.

Walt Mosberg's post on the Wall Street Journal says the Storm2 fixes all those flaws. The screen now stays still when tapped, providing tactile feedback electronically instead of mechanically. This allows for faster, smoother typing. The new model also has Wi-Fi. And you can now use a full, albeit squeezed, virtual keyboard in vertical mode.

Will you go out and buy the new Storm2? Let us know! It is rumored to be out in Nov. on Verizon.

Looks dangerous with a dedicated answer key on the front. What's to stop it from answering a call while in its case ? This is why I went to a flip phone at first but the iphone solved this with the slide to answer.

Not unless something goes horribly wrong with my iPhone. I had Verizon, but they had too little, too late.

Heh, yeah, I suppose I can empathise with that. I snootily proclaimed I'd never want or need a cellphone when they became popular, and now I can't imagine -not- having one.

Michael,
I must say that I have an iPhone and am pretty sure I couldn't live without it. It's great having instant information at your fingertips. On vacation and not sure where to eat? You just hit a button and a bunch of local restaurants pop up on the screen. I think that people can be just fine with a standard mobile phone, but once you have a taste of a smartphone, you probably won't want to go back to basic.

Having only just caught up to the technological curve of the mid-late nineties, I'm using a battered old Samsung for my first cellular experience. The modern bells and whistles of iPhones and Blackberries are largely lost on me, though if I could shake the prejudice that they're a brief social phenomenon that'll go out of style as soon as I shell out a few hundred dollars for one, I'd likely purchase one.
