When consumers visit the site, they think they are applying for a job with google and if they sign up, they receive a free trial CD or are allowed access to information about how they can make money from home using the search engine. Instead, consumers are faced with a bill before their trial expires, never receive the CD they were promised or are continually billed after canceling.
The Better Business Bureau wants consumers to be aware of tell-tale signs of what to look for before signing up with work at home job opportunities.
First, beware of offers that guarantee a lot of money or little effort and no experience. Make sure you thoroughly read the Web site's terms and conditions and consumers should be suspicious of work at home offers that use Google, Twitter or names of other big businesses. Finally, use your common sense and find out who owns the website or domain name behind the work at home offer.
