Beware of Phony Holiday Charity Appeals

December is here and that means plenty of charity organizations will be out soliciting for donations. 

Tom Stephens, Director of the Northeast Florida Better Business Bureau says buyer beware.

"In December, they are high on emotions and low on details and that is usually a warning sign," said Stephens.

"The wisdom in giving begins with knowing to whom you're giving, they have to follow some basic guidelines," according to Stephens.

You should also find out what percentage of your donation will support the program. If they refuse to share that information that could a tip off to a rip off, said Stephens.
