American Academy of Pediatrics Issues New Recommendations on Car Seats

Posted Wednesday, March 23, 2011
by Becky Maier

New advice is published in the April 2011 issue of Pediatrics magazine from The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for parents regarding car seats.

Among the advice is keeping toddlers in rear-facing car seats until the age of 2 or until they reach the maximum weight and height for their car seat.  The AAP also recommends that children remain in a booster seat until they are between 8-12 years old, or have reached 4 feet 9 inches.  AAP also recommends that children ride in the backseat until they are 13.
