OWNER OF PITTSBURGH RESALE BUSINESS CONVICTED OF RUNNING INTERSTATE FENCING OPERATION
The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed or pending, it will be noted below.
On August 28, 2024 a federal jury found Durrell Waters, owner of Trader Electronics guilty of conspiracy and money laundering in connection with the sale and interstate transportation of stolen goods.
From 2013 - 2016 Trader Electronics, along with several other resale businesses were being used as a front to sell stolen merchandise. Evidence established that Waters and his co-conspirators were knowingly purchasing items that had been shoplifted from local retailers. Store records allegedly reflected that Waters and his businesses purchased hundreds of thousands of brand-new items such as retail health and beauty aids and other products, such as new-release DVD's from walk-in sellers who had shoplifted the items. These were then re-sold on Amazon and Ebay storefronts and mailed to consumers across the United States with proceeds totaling more than 4.3 million dollars.
On April 5, 2025 a judge sentenced Mr. Waters to five years in prison.
