I brought my 2009 Subaru to Carlsons in May 2023 asking for a quote for all work required to pass inspection and for the cost of the inspection itself. The original quote provided was for $2,515 to fully repair and inspect the vehicle. This was presented as the complete quote without mention of any potential subsequent diagnostic testing required. However, after those repairs were already made Carlsons reached out to me to inform me that an additional $1,457 would be required in order to fully repair the vehicle. This left me in a terrible position as- had I known the accurate total prior to approving the original quote- I may have decided not to invest in the repairs for this vehicle at all. When I discussed this on the phone with the service consultant at Carlsons he apologized on behalf of Carlsons and made it clear that because Carlsons had missed the catalytic converter issue in their original assessment and had not disclosed that the original quote was provided without a complete diagnostic evaluation; Carlsons would complete the repairs at a reduced rate (for the cost of the part without the additional cost of labor). I graciously accepted the offer but did not have the $1,250 for the catalytic converter at that time. I paid the additional $207 for the u-joint and retrieved my car with the understanding that once I was able to get the $1,250- the offer to repair my vehicle at this rate in order to amend the original oversight would be honored. An expiration date of this offer was never communicated to me. There was no quote expiration date on the original or the secondary quote provided to me by Carlsons. I have finally been able to access assistance in order to complete the repairs. It has come to my attention that Carlsons has refused to, not only repair the vehicle for the cost of the catalytic converter, but to repair the vehicle at all.
