Complaints received by Better Business Bureau for fitness clubs have increased more than 90 percent in the last 5 years. And according to a new analysis conducted by BBB, the most common complaints consumers have about fitness clubs focus on two related areas, contract disputes (41.5 percent) and billing issues (31.7 percent). BBB has also seen a rise in complaints about fitness centers that sold memberships, only to go out of business a few weeks later (15.1 percent), leaving disgruntled customers behind trying to recoup their advance payments.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns consumers to steer clear of "too good to be true" advertisements for miracle drugs and treatments. These ads which feature exotic potions and pills, special curative diets, or "newly discovered" treatments, contain questionable claims about the effectiveness and safety of these products or services.

With the high cost of medicine, a new government program is supposed to help cut prescription costs for seniors and people with disabilities who have no other drug coverage. The Medicare discount drug program will begin in June 2004, allowing seniors to pick and chose from a number of discount drug cards approved by Medicare.
