406# BEING USED BY CALL CENTERS TO MAKE QUESTIONABLE PITCHES NATIONWIDE: 406-948-8156
HARD TO TRACK # BEING USED IN ATTEMPT TO FAKE OUT CALLERS, HIDE TRUE IDENTITY OF ENTITIES CALLING
Your regional BBB wishes to warn people nationwide that there is a supposed “Glendive, Montana” 406# number that is popping up on Caller ID that has been harassing callers with persistent contact, rudeness, and is in violation of the Do Not Call List aka when people request to be removed from the list, it doesn’t happen, and the calls sometimes increase as a result of the request.
Here is an online call log showing that this group is harassing people:
It seems by the call log posts that consumers are being asked about various aspects of their home---safety, etc. BBB cannot determine a specific industry or product/service being pitched, and believes this number is being used for various questionable pitches.
When you call the number, it only offers a generic voicemail that states, “If you want to be removed from our call list…” and then it hangs up on you, giving you no options.
The Montana Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection has also received a lot of inquiries about this group. The MT AG came to find that this 406 number belongs to an unknown out-of-state company that purchased/leased the Montana phone number from a telemarketing company that purchased/leased it from a Los Angeles based competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) named Pacific Telecom. The calls are not coming from Montana. Please see the three tiered call sequence below:
1. Pacific Telecom of CA (CLEC)
2. A telemarketing company --
3. The unknown out-of-state company which called you from (406) ***-****
What is a CLEC?
The MT AG’s office and the BBB are advising consumers to file complaints directly with the Federal Trade Commission either by calling (877) 382–4357 or by visiting www.ftc.gov against Pacific Telecom, 12228 Venice Blvd Ste 559, Los Angeles CA 90066.
