Business of Integrity Awards

  
     
Recognizing companies that demonstrate integrity and a strong commitment to ethics in all aspects of business.

The Better Business Bureau Education Foundation Business of Integrity Awards recognize companies who display an outstanding level of ethics and integrity in all of their business dealings. These companies generate a high level of trust among their employees, customers and their communities. This award is open to all for-profit businesses in the Upstate of South Carolina, who are in good standing with BBB. Membership with BBB is not required. 

How does it work?
 
There are five available size categories based upon number of employees: 

  • Category I: 1 – 10 employees
  • Category II: 11 – 49 employees
  • Category III: 50 – 199 employees
  • Category IV: 200+ employees 
  • Category V: Local Affiliate Franchise of Regional/National Company

Each company is asked to complete a formal entry. The three awards companies can apply for are Marketplace Ethics, Customer Service, and Community Service

1) Applicants must be a company that demonstrates:

  • Ethical practices in the marketplace
  • Honest marketing and advertising practices
  • Community industry recognition for sound business practices
  • Effective training and assistance for their employees in carrying out ethical
  • policies.

2) Applicant must submit a business questionnaire, for each category that they are applying for, to be considered for this award. The company will be required to pay a $100 entry fee, which will apply to one category. Applications for additional categories will require an additional $50 fee for each category and a separate application for each category. The entry fee of $100 will include two tickets to the BBB Education Foundation Business of Integrity Dinner on Thursday, November 12th at the Hilton Greenville where finalists and award winners will be recognized. Only 2 tickets will be included, regardless of the number of categories entered. Additional tickets may be purchased.

Types of Awards
AWARD FOR MARKETPLACE ETHICS
Applicants must submit a business questionnaire stating why the company should be considered for this award. The questionnaire should include the following:

  1. Information highlighting specific business and management practices relevant to ethics in the marketplace.
  2. Information that shows the company’s commitment to fair and honest conduct in the marketplace.
  3. Information showing the company’s position regarding business integrity and ethical practices. This may include a formally adopted policy or mission statement.
  4. Applicant is required to include a customer reference of at least two years that attests to the demonstration of ethical standard for your business. 

AWARD FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
Applicants must submit a business questionnaire stating why the company should be considered for this award. The questionnaire should include the following:

  1. Information from a Customer Service Policy that specifically highlights ethics in customer service.
  2. Information regarding training of employees with regard to Customer Service.
  3. Specific information regarding how the company handles consumer complaints.
  4. Attach at least three letters from customers regarding outstanding Customer Service.

AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE
Applicants must submit a business questionnaire stating why the company should be considered for this award. The questionnaire should include the following:

  1. Information regarding the company’s participation with any charity or community organization.
  2. Information regarding individual employee’s outstanding participation with any charity or community organization.
  3. Information showing why participation within a charity or community organization is important to the company and its employees. Include specific results realized due to your company’s leadership role in a charity or community organization.
  4. How your company encourages or allows participation in charitable or community organizations (such as paid time off for participation or requiring a certain number of hours of participation).
  5. In this category, applicants may include pictures of trophies, plaques, certificates and other items that demonstrate participation in community organizations.

The Judging Process
Entries are then reviewed by an independent panel of judges. The judges determine the finalists and award recipients for each category. All companies are recognized at the Business of Integrity Awards Gala and the winners are announced live at the event. 

Exclusions
A company is not eligible to compete if any of the following conditions apply: 

  • They have been in business less than 3 years
  • They have earned less than a “B” rating from the BBB
  • There are indications they have not met their financial obligations
  • Previous category winners may not enter for three consecutive years from the year they received the award. However, they may enter in another category.
