Additional Notes

Complaint: Steamatic cleaned air ducts on 2/21/14, however the sloppy work done created more work and expense for us. ********** had just cleaned the carpets the week prior and only one of the techs from Steamatic used shoe covers (1/2 the time) on this rainy morning. Toward end of job the techs used a strong chemical and advised me to leave. Upon reentering, found a thick black dust coating in windowsills and on carpet around vents where the vents were either not covered or not covered properly. My husband noticed the heat hadn't shot off in days, literally running nonstop. Thought there was a furnace issue, but on Sun 3/2/14 discovered it was, in fact, from a vacuum tube left hanging out of the end of the house, with the door wide open. This was why the heat hadn't shut off in over a week. An animal got under the house and had a field day with the moisture barrier that was newly installed. My husband, who has health issues...which is why I hired professionals, had to go under the house and put the moisture barrier back where it belonged, which took quite a long time. It's a big house. Woods are all around our house, so I am concerned there are still animals under the house. I called the owner, ***** ******. He wanted to know how I would like him to handle it and I told him I thought it was only fair to charge us for 1/2 the job for our inconvenience and money it's going to cost on our heat bill. He offered to send me a check for $22. This is an insult and very unprofessional. If I am paying almost $500 (475), I expect a professional job, that I don't have to clean up after and that's going to cost me additional money. Furthermore, this franchise owner was very unprofessional with his response "I called my buddy and he converted kilowatts and told me you'd only owe $22 extra on your heat bill, so I'll send you a check for that". I didn't call to complain until we found the tube issue over wk later. I wouldn't have called because the techs were very friendly, but the rest was unacceptable

Desired Settlement: At the very least, a partial refund of half for the work my husband had to do and for the expense of the heating bill. A job done correctly would have been techs arriving with shoe covers, leaving no dirt/ mess for me to clean up and certainly not leaving their equipment hanging out of the house with the door wide open for animals to get under the house. The moisture barrier was professionally installed less than a month earlier. It was a total mess and took a long time to straighten out.

Consumer Response: Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID*******, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.  Although, in regards to the comment about waiting almost 2 weeks to contact the company, this is an unfair statement.  We had not been outside due to cold weather, and the open door and company's tubing left hanging out of the house was not discovered until this time.  Otherwise, the company would have been notified immediately.  I would not have called about the mess left behind and shoe covers not worn.  However, the moisture barrier issue and animal(s) that got under our house due to this bigger mistake is what prompted me to call.  This is the part that cause the most headaches and was unacceptable.

I feel that, in the end, the owner did make things right be refunding a portion of the charge.  I was not seeking a full refund, as the air ducts were cleaned thoroughly and the representatives were friendly.  In addition, they did repair a piece of duct work that had come apart, for a small fee of $30.00.  I would probably use them again in the future, but would make sure to check everything BEFORE they left.  Lesson learned on my part.  The actual cleaning of the air ducts was done thoroughly.

Regards,

****** ******
