On Saturday, 8/21 we checked in to the Berkshires Travel Lodge at 12703 NY-22, Canaan, NY. 12029, that we had booked through *******.com. Upon pulling in, we could already see that the grounds were unkempt and there was litter everywhere. We also noted that the lookout decks did not look safe. As we were about to walk into the office, we could smell a strong, unpleasant order. The gentleman that checked us in, charged my card & informed us of check out times & that the pool was closed due to COVID. He then handed us room key 102. As my husband and I walked to our room, we discussed our growing concerns about the conditions that we would find. These concerns were not unfounded. The smell was indescribable. Right away you could see the dust, the filth, the dried liquid from sources unknown on the walls, and cobwebs. The shower was like a scene out of a horror film, the refrigerator was disgusting, there was dried, caked up food debris inside of the microwave, and there was what appeared to be blood or some other foreign body fluid on the box spring cover on the bed. We were not even in the room 5 minutes before I returned to the key to the gentleman in the office. He did not seem to be at all interested in addressing my concerns or complaints, and refused to issue a refund stating that the manager would need to take care of that. ******* & I have reached out several times to the Berkshires Travel Lodge by phone & email with no response. I have implored the Board of Health to investigate this property. This is truly is a public safety issue.
