Complaint: 10/6/14 I called for furnace service regarding no heat, they had installed it 7 years ago and serviced it over the years. Communication issue : I called at 6:30 am and spoke to their service my wife did it on line, service man responded and said he would call her once he was in the office, she called the office after 9am and the service guy stated he has not been on calls yet but can come 10-12. **** arrived and quoted $1,057.43 for a combustion blower. Stated he would get part / have lunch and return by 2:30. I had to leave work and cover since my wife was leaving for work. As I was driving home **** called and stated he could not get the part till the next day. I arrived home and saw the invoice. Called the company and complained about the cost since the entire furnace was$3000 . A nice guy called and lowered it to $800. ( reduction of $257.00) and stated they could be their in a hour with the part. Nice service man arrived - installed in less than 20 minutes.

Desired Settlement: I found out from another company that the blowers wholesale are 250 or less. So 20 minutes= $550???? I am complaining for others that may be being hit with$1000 . This is so wrong.unethical practice Wives, elderly, may not know or question the cost. Even at $800 it is high

Business Response: I would like to express my apologies that you were unsatisfied with our company. We always strive to give our customers the very best products and services In reading your letter to the Better Business Bureau I understand that you feel you overpaid for the repair to your furnace. You may be correct that the cost of the blower motor is $250. When our Comfort Technician, a true Service Professional, arrives at your home, it takes many important decisions and costs to get our vehicle and materials on site to complete the job to your satisfaction even if it means losing profit as we did by lowering our price. The initial technician had to do a complete diagnostics check of your furnace to troubleshoot any immediate repairs to ensure thoroughness. This initial process did take 90 minutes. The technician was told by the supply house they were out of stock. After locating the OEM motor outside of our local wholesale office where it was in fact out of stock, we did pull a technician to travel, pick up and install to get your furnace running again quickly so you and your family would be comfortable. The installation part of the motor did take fifteen minutes. Belknap is an ethical company that has been in business for over 45 years. We believe in explaining all of our services to our customers then we quote a price and have our customers agree to the price even initial that pricing was quoted before any work is done. This is the same process that we went through with you and your wife when **** and ******* came out to your home. When you called me, the service manager, I lowered the price believing that you had had regular maintenance done on the unit. In reviewing my records I see that the only maintenance that was done was a year after you purchased the unit when we performed a complementary maintenance check. A seven-year-old unit that has not been regularly maintained takes more work than a regularly maintained unit. I hope that you can see that by the time I pay my employees their wages, as well as all of my overhead and pay for the parts, I am not making as much of a profit as you claim in your letter. Belknap strives to provide excellent customer service and excellent customer satisfaction. We are sorry that you did not find this to be true. I hope that this letter explains some of the background to you and helps you better understand where we are coming from. We would love to be able to do business with you in the future Copies of invoices attached.

Consumer Response: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  They did not call me to discuss my concern. Three strikes. I appreciate the written apology but thier points do not address all my concerns regarding unjust pricing specifically a written quote Missing explanation of the parts cost, service, service call. For all to understand specifically the elderly and un educated consumer.   The invoices they attached were not the ones that were used, the ones used are ***** $1057.43 and  ***** $801.49 Neither invoice stated any other work that was done or preventive maintenance updated .   What's interesting is that  the 2008 PM invoice had a checklist of all that was checked  and measured But both the ***** and ***** had only furnace model and observation of the main issue no indication anything was checked or calibrated.    I told my wife what was wrong with it before we called for service  so it can't be that hard to diagnose. Fan motor hot - not running.- needs new one.  Invoice i paid ***** $801.49 . His  statement of the part being $250.00 , 90 minutes for diagnosis and 30 (install of part) =120 minutes  divided by  the remaining $ 550.00  would be 275.00 per hour. No further work was done. Cost of service time Way out of line for putting in a replacement part.   I want this posted on the BBB site as not resolved.  Consumer alert issue of service call / repair charges high
