dissatisfaction with the company's services and billing practices, and also
allege their treatment presentation and/or explanation was unclear.
Aspen Dental has responded in part by stating, “Dentists and hygienists at Aspen Dental believe in comprehensive treatment planning, which means providing a patient with a full assessment of their oral health and recommended treatments required to restore that patient to good oral health. Each clinician makes treatment recommendations based on what he or she believes is in the best interest of their patient. The dentist will fully explain the diagnosis and recommended course of treatment, but ultimately is it the patient’s decision as to whether he or she wants to move forward with the treatment plan or portions of it. If a patient is not comfortable with their recommended treatment, our team members encourage them to ask questions of the clinician to make sure they fully understand their diagnosis. Should they desire, we support them in seeking a second opinion and provide copies of their chart and x-rays at no cost.”
Aspen Dental is being cooperative in working with the BBB in addressing these complaints. The company has outlined measures they are currently putting in place in all of their over 340 locations with regard to reducing billing errors and improving their clarity around the inclusion of home care products for periodontal therapy. New practice guidelines are being implemented in locations across the US and should be available in all company locations by 2013.
