Complaint: August of 2014 we had Mr. Enclosure install a sunroom on our manufactured home. The sunroom is constantly making cracking and popping noises around the top of the windows and ceiling to the point where I am afraid to spend any time in this room (thinking any time it is going to totally cave in) that cost close to $20,000. The room size is a 10" x12". I tried to contact Mr. Enclosure (Mr. ******) but his number has been disconnected and I heard that he is now living in Arizona. I did not know that he was going to up and leave his business if I did I would not have had him install this sunroom. I do remember he was rather pushy in getting us to sign the contract for our dream sunroom and just get the job done that is now a expensive nightmare. On the contract their was a name of one of the worker's (Paul) so I tried to call him and he advised me that he no longer worked for Mr ******. I asked if he had a phone number for Mr. ****** and he said no but would try to get a number (he never called back). I guess I can't expect him to come here to take a look since he no longer works for Mr. Enclosure. My contract states a one year warranty on this sunroom. One other thing I do recall back in January I heard a loud noise in my ceiling which connects the sunroom. It sounded like a rafter broke or something that was attached to the addition from the sunroom ceiling to our inside ceiling. One other thing I contacted the company who supplied the materials ****** Manufacturing ( ****** *******) who was very helpful until he looked at the work order and found that Mr. ****** did not order any of the roofing which went with the ***** **** sunroom so therefore he could not help me. I don't know what roofing he used but it wasn't what he had told us we were getting and what we paid for. The ***** **** Sunroom. Maybe the roofing he used is not compatible with the window walls. Please help me or give me some advise as what to do. Thank you.
Desired Settlement: Just have someone ( Mr. ****** or one of this previous workers who installed the room) come and check the room to make sure it is installed properly and it is safe to use. If that is not possible refund me some of my monies so that I can hire and engineer or another contractor to check the room out and correct the problems.
Business Response: Please note that the room built on the home of Mr. & Mrs ****** is made of the finest materials available and each phase of the work was inspected by the local authorities and approved. The room is perfectly safe .The roof panels that they questioned are the stronger than the panels from ****** who manufactured the balance of the room. Its no different that the componants of their mobile home which no doubt came from different suppliers.The noise they hear is puzzeling.I have built at least 200 similar units on mobile homes in the last 50 years and never heard this complaint,so I called two separate mobile home manufacturers and asked if this was something they have ever heard of and they could only say that quite possibly there is movement of their moble home even if slight may be the problem.This was both their explanations strictly guessing of course.But to repeat,The structural integrity of the room is excellent and is not about to cave in.The ****** were extremely pleasant and when the job was finished they presented my two installers and myself with parting gifts. I was forced to retire unexpectedly by unfortunate health issues.I expected to work till I achieved 85 years of age...........................
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
That was very kind of Mr. ****** to respond to our complaint. Too bad he could not be here in person. Unfortunately, we reject his response. And this is why. The only phase of the construction work that was inspected was when the footers where dug for the deck. As in any deck project the Town came looked at them and approved it. No other authorities, engineers etc. came to our home to inspect the ongoing project. So he is incorrect in making that statement. We paid for a ***** **** Room complete. We do not care whether the panels he used are stronger, they do not go with the rest of the ***** **** room made by ******. We expected him to give us what we paid for and what he told us we were getting. So in his words the reason why the room ceiling is constantly cracking and popping is because our mobile home is moving. How far is it going to move? If the mobile home is moving why it that not cracking also. We have awnings and decking on the other side of the home and never in the 16 years we have lived here have we heard and cracking or popping on that side of the home. We do not feel safe in this home and now for sure after he made that statement. He is the builder he should have told us upfront that their was a possibility of this happening. We would have never put the sunroom on. Yes, we were very pleased with the end results (and the room still looks lovely). But looking lovely and feeling save are two different things. My husband put a ladder up to the addition side and we both looked and noticed that the screws they put up there are not flush to the roof they are about a 1/4" to 1/2" up from the roof and their is caulking around every screw. Shouldn't the screws be flush with the roof? Why is this, Mr. ******? Mr. ****** advised us to call one of his workers **** if we had any problems whatsoever. We have tried numerous times to call **** (even to get Mr. ******'s phone number) and he just puts us off and says do not work for him any longer. All we are looking for is to have someone come to our home and check the room out to make sure it is safe and correct the problems before something happens. As I said at this point I am afraid to use the room and I do not go in there and now the home is moving, we are beside ourselves. Never had a problem with the home moving until now. I called several engineers and the cost for them to access the sunroom structure is between 450.00 to $500.00. According to the contract between Mr. Enclosure and ******* ****** dated June 29, 2013 and work completed August 12, 2013 it states "THE CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT ALL MATERIALS SHALL BE OF GOOD QUALITY AND THAT ALL WORK WILL BE DONE IN A GOOD WORKMANLIKE MANNER, AND THAT IT WILL REMEDY ANY DEFECT IN THE WORKMANSHIP OF WHICH IT RECEIVES NOTICE WITHIN ONE YEAR FROM PURCHASE DATE, WITHOUT ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNERS". ****** manufacturing has a lifetime warranty on their products. Our neighbors down the street had a sunroom put on their much older mobile home some years ago by Patio Enclosures and they have advised us that they have never had any cracking or popping problems, or moving of their mobile home problems. So I do not believe Mr. ******. We tried to take his response to Mr. Harper who owns this park regarding the movement of the mobile home unfortunately he will not be back in the office until Monday July 28th. I am interested in hearing what he has to say. It is too bad that Mr. ****** has health issues but he needs to stand behind his work whether he is here or in Arizona. He really needs to get this resolved for us so we can have some peace of mind here. We don't want to go round and round with him using words we want him to PLEASE correct the problems or take the entire sunroom down and refund us our money. Regards, ******* ******
Business Response: I spoke with *** and he has contacted, ****, who installed the enclosure. **** agreed to go take a look at the enclosure. *** is retired and no longer going to able to respond as the building was installed properly, and his company is dissolved. He does not recommend contacting an engineer, as that would be wasting money. He said this is the best I can do since I am retired, by having **** take a look at it for them.
