We asked for an estimate to install rolling shades to enclose our patio. *** came and gave us his bid to do so using 4 screens. Later he advised us that we could not complete the project because our bedroom would be inside the enclosure and that was against code. We agreed to enclose just a portion of the patio using 3 screens. Later we decided that a 4th screen would provide some shade to the portion of the patio off the bedroom without enclosing that area. He agreed. After install we received our final however, we were only charged for 3 shades. We called and let him know that he did not charge us for the 4th shade. He sent a new bill that was far, far higher than the original bid he had given us for 4 screens. Note that the 4 screens were exactly the same size as the original four he had bid on. We called and told his wife that the bill was not correct and that we would only pay what the original bid was.*** called and set a time to visit with us to explain the bill. He claimed that he had installed a different type of frame. We asked why, and he said it was required. He could not explain why it was required. He told my wife that she was confused and had also been confused when she called to add the 4th screen back as original bid. The meeting became heated when he said he had told us about the change. He became very belligerent and threatened to place a lean on our home. I too became angry and I did tell him he did not inform us, He continued to insist that he had and stated he knew he had because that is what he tells everyone. I found it interesting that he must tell everyone that he is making a change after bidding. It sounded like a bait and switch scheme to me. Eventually things calmed a bit and he offered a compromise. We accepted that and felt that his apologies for the confusion were genuine. Now, the shades need service and he refuses to service his product. He is very unprofessional and should not be trusted.
