Issue regarding the Arizona Daily Star diverting tips clearly designated for the newspaper delivery person and using to pay for newspaper subscription
In the beginning of July 2013 I contacted the newspaper, due to a problem with my bill account number AMXXXXXXX. I was dismayed to discover that my delivery person's tip (50.00 from January 2014)had not gone to her but to extend my newspaper subscription. The representative said it was an isolated issue and I must have designated it incorrectly. When I pointed out it was a chronic issue for the past two years of mis -billing and diverting tips. That in fact I had to switch from electronic billing and payment to paper billing to try to ensure that my carrier received their tips and the problem was still occurring. I also indicated I had the cancelled check that clearly designated the tip as well as always taking great care to fill out the payment slip.I also shared that it took me quite awhile to stare at the bill to realize what occurred. I told her that I felt this was a clear pattern of bad business practices, not isolated since it happened several times over the past two years.I wondered how many other accounts and delivery people it affected. I said it was unfortunate the attitude regarding the problem after being a customer for numerous years I was cancelling my account, reporting to the BBB,I asked to speak with a manager. She said there was no one available, but they would have a district manager contact me. They never did.

Dear Sir or Madame,

We have reviewed our payment records, and found that Ms. ****** check for $74.68 was incorrectly allocated, and the intended carrier tip of $50 was inadvertently allocated to her account.

We will provide carrier with $50 in tip money as quickly as possible.

Our research shows that the misallocation was an isolated issue. Below is a breakdown of Ms. ******' payments and tip allocations dating back to March of 2012. Other than her most recent payment, all Carrier tips have been allocated properly.
