We hired Rainbow International to remediate damage from an apparent roof/scupper leak and clear any mold from the kitchen area and garage in October 2022, having read Rainbow’s strong online reviews and BBB rating. They sent a nice guy, but he failed to identify the source of damage before beginning to re-plaster and dry out damaged area (garage and adjacent kitchen). So the mold lingered and damage repeatedly recurred. In December he claimed work would be done by end of month, only to notify us it was leaking again a week later; so we addressed that leak in January; then the same thing happened in March. After 7 months, in May, with work still incomplete and with Rainbow having failed to provide us with billing updates that my husband requested on May 10, my husband asked for a final bill to date and to close account on May 26. We put Rainbow on a do-not-allow-access list at security gate and removed lockbox key. A month after my husband asked for May 10 billing clarification, we finally received reply from the Rainbow contractor with a bill that is nearly $10k more than the initial estimate of $13k that we agreed to, even though the work was incomplete when I visited on May 20. He claims to have completed the work after May 26th when my husband wrote to close account and after we put Rainbow on the do-not-allow-access list; if he did, it was without our knowledge or permission. We are appalled. Remediation should not be a revolving door in which contractor’s failure to accurately identify source leads to repeated remediation of the same issue for half a year at the home owner’s expense. This is substandard work; we are happy to pay the $13k that we agreed to pay when we hired Rainbow, even as the work is not complete; nearly doubling the original price due to their contractor’s incompetence is not okay and should not be our responsibility. We hope Rainbow International will correct the bill to accept responsibility for a job poorly done and still incomplete.
