On January 23, 2001, the United States Postal Inspection Service imposed a civil mail seizure order on the Tucson mail drop used by Centrex. The order bars the mail drop operator from forwarding mail to Centrex, the renter of the private mail box. On February 23, 2001, police in Toronto, Canada arrested the operators of Centrex and charged them with fraud in the operation of an advance-fee loan scheme.

Mail that arrives at the Centrex mail drop after the seizure order, will be returned to consumers who sent it. The Postal Inspection Service advises the mail return may take several months. Consumers who sent checks to Centrex may wish to consider a stop payment order. Consumers who sent cashier's checks or money orders may wish to contact the Post Office in Tucson for expedited return.
