Complaint Category: Sales presentation used high pressure methods

Complaint: This business continually contacts our home to conduct a survey and sell a product, in violation of the federal Do Not Call legislation.
We are receiving continual calls from XXX-XXX-XXXX with a caller I.D. of "Grt Lakes Hlth", asking us to complete a survey, and schedule an appointment to sell air purifiers in-home. We are on the federal "Do Not Call" list and this is a direct violation of telemarketing under that law.

Complaint: Company post card was inserted with Sunday's Blade. Scratch card revealed 4 Kings and the word "winner". Reverse card said "4 Kings is highest winner". Possible $10,000 Grand Prize winner. Consumer called company and company told consumer that he would have to listen to presentation for 3 hours. After presentation company would take key and check against card for validity. Consumer made an appointment for 3 p.m. Consumer told company he would limit appointment to 1 hour., and company never showed.

Business' Initial Response
***** responded by phone explaining that company representative forgot to get consumer phone number when setting the appointment. Company had only one appointment in ******* that day and wanted to confirm he would be home. Since they couldn't call they didn't take the chance. Apologized that the mistake was made by a new hire.
Also ***** agreed to have phone reps more carefully explain the fine print on contest cards which says the prizes and winning hands don't correspond, and that the four kings (which is the best hand) doesn't mean that they win the best prize (10 thousand dollars).

Complaint Resolution: BBB determined that while the company addressed the complaint issues, the complainant was dissatisfied and the matter was outside BBB Rules of Arbitration.
