MHC offers a variety of programs, including family reading initiatives, heritage tourism projects, and traveling exhibits. MHC also conducts on-demand programming, such as a speakers' bureau--all of which combined to reach 157,665 individuals in 90 Missouri counties in 2013. Ongoing programs include: READ from ;the START--a program that seeks to help parents understand the importance and experience the joy of reading and telling stories to their children; Traveling Exhibits--in collaboration with the Missouri History Museum and the Smithsonian Institution, MHC brings high quality traveling exhibits to Missouri communities and helps them to develop programs and exhibits to tell their own stories; Project and Program Grants--MHC awards competitive grants to statewide institutions, organizations, and communities to help them develop and present high-quality humanities-based programs, events, exhibits, and publications; "Show Me Missouri" Speakers Services--in collaboration with the State Historical Society of Missouri, MHC provides a network of scholars to provide affordable, high-quality programs; Veterans' Creative Writing Workshops--in cooperation with the VA Occupational Therapy Unit at Jefferson Barracks, MHC is helping offer creative writing workshops and mentoring for veterans, both to facilitate reentry into day-to-day living and to generate documentation of this aspect of our recent history; The Missouri Humanities Awards--MHC recognizes excellence in humanities-based education, literature and community service; Heritage Tourism/Humanities Inventory Pilot Project--MHC supports innovation in the effort to assist Missouri communities in preserving and sharing their stories.
