Government Actions On March 6, 2008, the Missouri Attorney General filed suit in St. Charles County Circuit Court against Dealer Services doing business as National Auto Warranty Services for sending consumers postcards and letters informing them that their warranties were about to expire, and that it was offering them their final chance to purchase a renewed, extended auto warranty. The Attorney General claimed the company failed to inform consumers that it was not affiliated with the dealers or manufacturers of the vehicle, and that it was offering to sell motor vehicle extended service contracts instead of warranties. In addition, the company violated the Missouri No Call Law by calling Missourians who were on the no call list as well as federal telemarketing laws by contacting consumers by phone and failing to honor their requests not to be called. The suit is pending. |

Advertising Review The Better Business Bureau has questioned some advertised claims contained in mail solicitations sent to consumers. The BBB brought to the firm's attention that an advertisement as a whole may be misleading although every sentence separately considered is literally true, and that misrepresentation may result not only from direct statements but by omitting or obscuring a material fact. The BBB continues to receive a pattern of complaints and reports from consumers alleging that the firm's solicitations are misleading. The company agreed to discontinue its advertisement. |
