The purposes for which the Corporation is organized are: (1) to construct, own, rent, lease and operate facilities for broadcast and other electronic media, with related stationary, mobile and portable equipment in the St. Louis metropolitan area, for the purposes of producing, recording, distributing, presenting and broadcasting noncommercial educational, cultural, scientific, civic and entertainment programs on a not for profit basis, pursuant to the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission or any other duly authorized regulatory body; (2) to operate a nonprofit educational organization; (3) to promote the cultural, educational and civic welfare of the residents of the communities in Missouri and Illinois served by the Corporation and its facilities and equipment; (4) to solicit funds and to accept donations, either in trust or otherwise, for all the foregoing purposes; and (5) to do all things necessary or incident to accomplish all the purposes hereinabove expressed as may be provided by or not restricted by law.

The Nine Network of Public Media is a multifaceted organization creating networks of individuals and organizations empowered by public media to strengthen our region. One of the nation's most watched public television stations, Nine presents outstanding local and national content on four distinct broadcast channels--Nine PBS, Nine World, Nine Create and Nine Kids--reaching 100 counties in Missouri and Illinois. Much of the Nine Network's on-air content is also available online at nineNet.org. As our region's storyteller, the Nine Network highlights local achievements and engages individuals and partner organizations to raise awareness and understanding on important issues. Topics of particular focus include education, healthcare, the environment, the economy, science and the arts. The Nine Network is nationally recognized for community engagement and has become a model for public television stations across the country. In 2011 the Corporation for Public Broadcasting selected the Nine Network to lead American Graduate, a long-term local and national initiative with the goal of achieving a 90% graduation rate by 2020. The initiative involves more than 50 local partner organizations and more than 1000 partner organizations nationwide. Community-supported since its founding in 1954, the Nine Network is true to its mission of bringing St. Louis together as it connects our region with the world and the world to St. Louis. Nine marks its 60th birthday in 2014 with the opening of an innovative outdoor public media commons with large-scale video walls, interactive screens and a performance stage that invites the community to share creative experiences.
