Publishers Clearing House phone scams arising in the Ozarks

March 11, 2014
Scammers are at it again, this time they are claiming to be from the Publishers Clearing House. Your BBB has contacted the Publishers Clearing house and gathered facts to help our consumers from being scammed.

The Publishers Clearing House will never call you, they handle all of their communications by mail. They will also never ask for money to release your funds. It is common for scammers to say "you need to pay the fee to release your winnings", these are always scams. If you ever win money, you won't need to pay for it. The Publishers Clearing House, has two different guidelines when they communicate with their winners.

If you win a prize under $10,000.00
  • They will send you a winners confirmation number with a written affidavit.
  • They will not ask you for your personal information before you receive your prize, they have that already from signing up with them.
  • If they do need any other information from you, it will be when you receive the prize and not before.
If you win a prize over $10,000.00
  • The Publishers Clearing House has the Prize Patrol for prizes this large. They will personally come and deliver these large prizes. If you are not home they will keep trying for up to 30 days.
The Publishers Clearing House has it's own scam department and can be called at 1-800-392-4190 if you think someone is trying to scam you. If you have any other questions, call your local BBB at 417-862-8419.
