Area Students to Shadow BBB Program

The Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado offers an alternative dispute resolution program (ADR) which affords business and consumers the opportunity to resolve their disputes through mediation and arbitration. With such an exceptional pool of mediators here in the Pikes Peak Region we are excited to be able to build upon the ADR program and use it as a learning opportunity for new mediators.

Pikes Peak Community College offers a mediation training program that introduces students to the role of the mediator in helping parties resolve their disputes. Students explore the conflict resolution, communication and problem-solving skills necessary for achieving effective dispute resolution in both professional and personal situations.

Starting in November 2013 PPCC mediation students will be invited to observe business/consumer mediations at the BBB and small claims court mediations through the 4th Judicial Court District. With one observer per mediation, students can observe the practical application of the skills they are learning in the classroom. Students will also have the opportunity to debrief with professional mediators to ask questions and continue to build upon their classroom learning.
