Document Shredding Day a Rip-roaring Success

August 05, 2013
Once again on Friday, August 2, 2013, your Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado, KKTV 11 News, Mobile Record Shredders and Blue Star Recyclers helped protect the identity of hundreds of consumers in Colorado Springs at one of their four annual document shredding events, better known as Letter Rip!

Three huge trucks lined the parking lot at the Security Service Field - Home of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox - at 4385 Tutt Boulevard as both consumers and businesses brought boxes of documents to shred. In just four hours, 26,000 pounds or 13 tons of documents were shredded. Mobile Record Shredders takes the material to its facility in Pueblo for recycling. Representatives from Blue Star Recyclers estimate that 2,000 pounds of electronics were collected for destruction and recycling; 35 computer hard drives were collected for data destruction and recycling.

Although there was no cost to shred documents, there was a small charge for those who brought more than five boxes and electronics. More than $1,800 in donations were received on behalf of the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado Foundation. The money will be used to fund scholarships for Colorado high school students as part of the BBB Excellence Awards - Education. The next Letter Rip! event will be held in Pueblo at Sam’s Club, 412 Eagleridge Boulevard on Friday, August 9, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
