Car Wrapping Scam Promises Money
BBB Warns Consumers to Not Get Wrapped Up With This Scam
Better Business Bureau® serving the South Plains is warning consumers of an email scam promising money in exchange for advertising for Bud Light on your car.
A consumer received an email from an alleged Hiring Manager at Bud Light Breweries stating that they had been approved of the application for the Bud Light Auto Wrap Concept. The email informed the consumer that the car wrap would stay on their car for three months in exchange for $400 per week in compensation. A specialist would safely remove the vinyl decal and no traces would be left on the car. The consumer was promised that no personal funds would have to be provided for the car wrap.
The email also asked for personal information such as name, address and phone number.
If you receive a similar email, the BBB has these Tips:
• Beware of deals that sound too good to be true – Offers in e-mails can often sound like a great deal. Consumers should always go with their instincts and not be afraid to pass up a “deal” that might cost them dearly in the end.
• If someone urges you to send or wire money, it’s probably a scam- Con artists often insist that people wire money because it’s nearly impossible to reverse the transaction and follow the money. Legitimate companies generally won’t ask you to wire money to them.
• Don’t respond to any messages that ask for your personal or financial information- regardless of whether the message comes as an email, a phone call, a text, or an ad. They could be gathering information for a future scam.
• Research the company- Before cashing a check from a company or disclosing personal information, get basic information from the company. Where is it headquartered? Who owns the business? Are there any complaints online?
