Industry Tips AUTO REPAIRS There are several things you can do to save a significant amount of time and money over the lifetime of your car as well as prolong its life. Read the owner's manual and familiarize yourself with your vehicle's warranty information. Change your car's oil regularly. Protect yourself by practicing 'consumer automotive strategy'. 1. Be quiet about your lack of knowledge. 2. Watch your car, if possible. Don't leave valuables in your car while it is being worked on. 3. If you have a complaint, deal first with the owner or manager of the shop. 4. Find out if the mechanic is A S E certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence in Washington, DC. 5. If you are a member of the A A A (American Automobile Association), you may want to contact them for assistance. The BBB has a program that deals specifically with new automobile issues such as problems with the operation of a vehicle that the consumer attributes to the manufacturer (ie, transmission, paint, vibration, etc.) called Auto Line. Manufacturers that participate in Auto Line are: Acura, A M General, Audi, General Motors (Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC Truck, Oldsmobile, Pontiac), Daewoo, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Isuzu, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Nissan, Porsche, Saturn, Volkswagen and Workhorse Custom Chassis. If you have an issue with your new vehicle, you might wish to contact Auto Line at 1-800-955-5100. |
