Our files contain a pattern of complaints from consumers alleging although a contract is signed with Moving Apt Inc., the price of the move is raised by the moving company that fulfills the actual move. Other consumers allege late pick up or delivery from the moving companies brokered by Moving Apt Inc.
Moving Apt Inc. responds to these complaints with an explanation of their services.
On July 23, 2013, BBB sent correspondence to Moving Apt Inc. requesting their voluntary cooperation in resolving complaints on file with BBB and providing steps it will implement to eliminate the pattern of customer complaints; however, as of August 23, 2013 BBB has not received a response from the company.
On June 23, 2015, Moving APT replied to BBB regarding the pattern of complaints with the following explanation:
1) Price are raised due to to the customers adding more items to the original list at time of pick-up. Since this service is shipping, anything that is added is charged.
Moving APT has various departments in place to help avoid and counteract prices being raised: MOVING APT DEPARTMENTS
Moving APT has three departments they are::
a) Reservation Department
b) Quality Assurance Department
c) Operations Department.
The Reservation Department is designed to guide the customer thru the moving process and list the items that are being moved.
The Quality Assurance Department is designed to double check the list and go over any add-ons or removals of the inventory list.
The Operations Department is designed to detail the move with size of trucks and the carriers.
These departments are all designed to make the customer's move go smooth and stress free, as possible with the customer's thorough corporation.
RESERVATION DEPARTMENT AND PRICE OF MOVE
The Reservation Department is the department that takes the inventory list provided by the customer and from that list the price is determined.
The price is based on the inventory list or checklist of the household goods (items) that the customer is moving. Moving APT uses a program to calculate the price. As long as the customer is being as thorough as possible and complete the list, then the price is based on that list and those items on the list.
The carrier who is used for the move always has a copy of the same list that is provided by the customer. If for whatever reason the customer changes the list by adding more items to the list then the price is raised due to more items being added to the original list. This is the same thing as adding anything to a shipping list, it will change the price. This is explained to the customer during the time of reservation as well in the written agreement signed by the customer.
QUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT - RE-CHECKING THE MOVE LIST
The Quality Assurance Department is a department set in place for "check and balance" of the move. In order to avoid any additional cost this department will go over the list again and again for any added changes. The Quality Assurance department will adjust cost of the move based on the most recent changes of the move list.
Although this is part of the process and despite the checking and re-checking that items are still added on to the move at time of the actual move, subsequently cause the original to go up.
The Operation Department is designed to handle the details of the move i.e. size of truck, number of movers, pick-up and delivery dates.
The Carriers that we contract work out to (Brokers) are responsible for pickup and deliveries, however Moving APT makes sure the dates can be met before assigning a job. However, sometimes in the event of moving delays such as weather conditions traffic delays or backlogs, the contractor may tend to arrive later than expected. Moving APT is always in constant communication with the customer regarding the pickup or delivery delays.
REASON FOR COMPLAINTS
Most of the complaints are due to the following:
. Customers have more household goods than originally listed, subsequently changing the price . Customers leave out major appliance i.e. washer dryer, stove refrigerator subsequently changing the original price.
. Customers move dates changes unexpectedly, and move is delayed from the original date. . Contractor is delayed sometimes due to weather conditions or road construction, traffic, etc.
Moving APT is committed to constantly improving service internally and contractually. We
continue to seek five star contractors to provide quality service to our growing customer/company needs.
In conclusion Moving APT and the various departments are designed to
a) Reserve the move
b) Assess the move
c) Service the move.
Moving APT move volumes each month and the ratio of complaints to the volume of service is rationally lower than the number of satisfied customers. We stand by our service.
We make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints
As of October 15, 2015 BBB found that the Pattern of Complaints still exists. However Moving Apt Inc has responded and has address complaints on file.
BBB will continue to monitor the complaint activity of the company and update the Business Review as needed.
