Complaint Contractor misrepresented himself by taking our job when he did not have the skills or the crew to do the job to our expectations. Contractor did a bathroom and kitchen remodel, and built an addition. Contractor failed inspection 10x over the course of the project. He was extremely rude to my wife and her mother on several occasions and yelled at my wife outside one day in front of neighbors. He treated women with zero respect. The plumber he used in the bath had a leaky acetylene tank and caused near-fatal CO levels in the house. We had to evacuate the house that night and have the fire dept depressurize the house with high capacity fans to eliminate all the CO. We had to wait outside for 3-4 hours that night with our 2 yr old and 8 mo old until we could safely go back inside. Contractor did not take responsibility for this issue. Contractor built custom cabinets for the bathroom and did not install them per the plan, so they had to be taken down and reinstalled. Contractor refused to take the template for the 2 bathroom sinks with him for proper measurement, and then told us during installation that the very expensive sinks we bought were too big for the cabinets and we would have to buy new ones. Then after we bought new ones, he did not center them on the countertop during install so we have more space on one side. He gutted the shower enclosure and did not line up 2 of the studs properly, so now there is a wavy wall in the shower. The 2 shelf inserts in the shower were also installed unevenly. He also dropped something heavy on the brand new bathtub we bought and cracked it. He kept it covered with his tools and equipment so we could not see it until after the Quartzite tub deck was installed, so now we can't even have the tub removed because we would have to rip out all that expensive stone. He installed the floor uneven so now the glass door for the shower enclosure doesn't close properly. The tile in the shower was installed unevenly and there is sloppy grout work on top of our ~$3000 tile in the shower. He installed undermount lights under the bath cabinets and caulked them closed so that now we can't change the light bulbs if we ever needed to do so. In the kitchen, the finishing work on the custom cabinets he built was so awful that we had to call a separate cabinet refinishing company to come and fix them for $2100. When they took the drawers and doors apart and showed them to us in the daylight, they showed us 3 different colors on the doors. We have to push the soft close drawers really hard in order for the soft close mechanism to work. He lubricated them, and stained the new granite tops with the grease. When the refinishers simply slid the drawers out of the boxes, the soft close tracks started falling apart and had to be replaced. He used an inferior (cheap) product. When we open some of the cabinet doors, they can't open all the way or they will bang in to adjacent cabinets. One of the shelves in a cabinet bowed after having some objects on it for only one night. Yes they were heavy objects (about 5-6 two liter soda bottles), but a new shelf shouldn't bend after only one night. We caught him twice standing on our expensive furniture instead of a ladder. In the addition, the electric switches were not installed to plan. A 3-way light switch is missing so now we can only walk to the far end of the addition to turn on/off the lights. The moldings installed around the windows and doors were installed crooked and we have to pay someone else to take them down and replace them. The new drywall hung up was showing seams after only a few days. The poured concrete floor was not installed evenly, so we had to pay our flooring installer an add'l $650 to level the floor so he could install the laminate flooring. We found 2 expensive pieces of jewelry in our master bedroom placed in odd places where we didn't place them, and we think a member of the crew was trying to steal them. They also helped themselves to food and drink in our fridge and cabinets without asking. He told our 3 yr old girl to lick his grout sponge to clean up drywall dust.
Desired Settlement We want him to fix everything to our satisfaction and reimburse us for the money we already spent paying others to fix his work. We want the work done by quality, top-notch professionals who will treat us, our kids, and our home with the respect it deserves. We want the work done correctly this time with no mistakes.
The information in the table below represents an industry comparison of businesses which are of the same relative size. This is based on BBB's database of businesses located in Southeast Florida and the Caribbean. Businesses may engage in more than one type of business.
