Complaint: Plumber came to my residence for a service call to check my gas water heater. We needed it checked because we are selling our home and per our selling contract we needed it serviced and checked by a licensed plumber. They came out for about 30 minutes and said it was fine. As he was leaving we wanted some kind of written description or invoice saying this to prove we had a plumber come out. Once we asked for this he said let me check the water heater again and then "found" a problem with the water heater. The situation felt shady and sent him on his way. I had another plumbing contractor come to my residence and he checked the water heater and said it was in good working condition. They want me to pay an exorbitant service fee $120 for a service call that did not seem truthful or warrant the up selling of services and labor.

Desired Settlement: Service not ethical and recommended solution was not warranted. I do not want feel right paying someone for sketchy service.

Business Response:

On March 31, 2015 our service department received a call from *** ******* stating they were selling their home.  They had a home inspector come to the house as part of the sales contract.  While inspecting the home, the home inspector had turned the water heater off and when he went to turn it back on it wouldn’t re-light.  The home inspector informed *** ******* that a licensed plumber would need to come out to check the water heater.


On April 2, 2015 our service technician arrived at the home of *** *******.  Although our technician did get the water heater to function, he found that the gas valve would fail if the wiring was touched.  Our technician explained to *** ******* that the gas valve would need to be replaced for the water heater to be in proper working condition.  Our technician also recommended that *** ******* change the thermocouple at the same time.  It has been our experience that when a gas valve fails, the thermocouple fails a short time later.  In an effort to reduce future expenses we recommend the replacement of both parts.


Our technician gave *** ******* the cost of replacing each item and gave him the option of replacing one or both of the items.  *** ******* told our technician he would think about what he wanted to do and would call us back.


*** ******* has never been invoiced for the original service visit, called with any concerns regarding the service he received, or requested the work to be completed.
