Complaint: Well we went in to ask about selling are car because we are leaving over seas and needed just one car. I became willing to do a trade in value with both cars we had for this SUV we have always wanted. Will we to tried to ask for car fax's and we didn't get one is was kind of shrugged off and forgotten about. We asked to see paper work and didn't see it and then no one still calls us the same day we left about what bank we are using and what we are paying. They said they would work on it today. Well I stated the $500 range is too much for us to handle as a one income family and no one got the hint or could explain things well. Well my husband also cant handle things and didnt look at finances or consider how much are family is going to go into debut because of this car. We had a really good car and now stuck with something not as good as the car I wanted to keep. I love how you guys say you help people out but really you just screwed us all over and don't car if we can survive with this car and we only came home after getting the car because my husband wouldn't slow down and look at the big picture and are resources as a family and after he did and called the dealership Thrifty back they just stated the Idaho law to him. There should be some law for military members buying cars not everyone knows the laws for each state and I regret not looking up Idaho but was to worried about cars and prices and overseas driving. But he tried everything and now we will soon have no car and shitty credit thanks to them taking away the best car I had for driving overseas. Thank you for the support and the half a gallon of gas when usually you can get full tanks when making big purchases like this. Oh and I wish you would have been the chevy dealship since they are offering the love it or return it policy. Thank you again for all your help and sorry for the hassile I just didn't see this coming or think it would be so hard to get rid of are car that I put alot of work into. I have alot more I could say but won't.

Desired Settlement: Would just like to put this behind but having a hard time cried my entire way out the parking lot. Would just like to have my 2 vehcicles back and never speak of it again. But that isn't going to happen. I regret every leaving your parking lot and not knowing the rules. We were so nice and patient knowing you guys had a bust rental from the base.

Business Response: Sorry to hear that had such a poor experience with us at Thrifty. We will work harder in the future to ensure consumers have a better experience. We have done, and will do, everything as per our contracted agreement. If you have any questions and anything in the contract that we have not done, please fill free to contact us. Again, sorry about your experience, as that was not our intent.

Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ******** and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

First of all yes we tried to return the car the same day 2 hours later because my wife was so upset about the purchase of this car of the miles which wasn't what they told us and the speedometer had said something different and they did not go over the paper work well. We also weren't very realistic about a big vehicle payment and found out later they could have given us a 84 month loan over a 72 month loan. Which I asked them why we weren't given an option and they said they didn't want to hurt are credit. Which they said we had great credit and we should have made that choice but now there no fixing that. We were just in ah over the car and excited about moving overseas. So this is why we went to one car and I think it was just a little to much for her to handle so fast. So that week we tried contacting them and got no where. So Saturday I went down there to talk with them and realized we messed up buying a car from them and tried to at least resolve the problem that the car was making a noise and acting funny. Well all they said to me was you should be fine and that it is under warranty. They said to take it to any dealership and they should be able to tell you all about the car and its warranty.

So next we took the car the ******** ***** ** Boise Idaho had a 30,000 mile check on the car so we could see what the problem was and make sure everything else was working fine on the car. The shock was so bad they brought us to the back to show us the cars problem and said they should have never sold a car this bad and would have seen it before selling the car. They also said since it was damage that it is not covered under the warranty and they gave us the part to take back to thrifty to see about maybe them refunding us the money for having to pay fixing it out of pocket.

Thirdly ******* was in charge of are case about the cars shock being broken. We told them and requested only a refund for $250 for the shock and labor of Chevy dealership fixing the car. I did not request money for the transmission flush or miles check up I had done. So I was not trying to take advantage of them in anyway just want should have been taken care of before being sold to a costumer. So ******* looked into there paper work on the car and said it should be under warranty and that ******** ** ***** ** ***** was wrong. So  I contacted ****** who helped us at ******** in services and he told me to have thrifty contact him and he would talk to them. So ******* contacted ******** and found out we are not lying. Then a day or two later he came back saying our Buick rendezvous was broken and that it should be an even trade. I told him that what ******* was saying was broken was just fixed and you can contact performance Chevy in mountain home down the street from you where we always have it service and taken care of all the work that has been done to it that the car should be fine. So ******* called down to performance of Chevy and then I talked to him again and he said that I wasn't lying that we have had a lot of work done to the rendezvous and I told yes we take care of are cars and don't sell broken ones to people. We had just spent $2,100.00 on the rendezvous before trading it in or we were going to sell it are self but thought it would be easier to trade it in. So then I pretty much asked ******* are you guys just going to keep this going round and round because I really don't have time very day to do this and I am done and would like to speak to ***** the owner know and only *****. So finally I got a call back from ******* othe phone and ***** on the speaker phone and what seemed like they were finally going to refund us the $250 and ***** told ******* that we can no longer talk wit us because they just received a complaint from BBB and it is now in the hands of are attorneys.

So we then contact you the next morning telling you what happened and you would talk to them so we let it go and my wife decided to ask you about the current situation and that's when you told us about a fake attorney calling them telling them to retun are car to us or else. Which I have not talked to a legal person or any friends concerning the matter and have not called them. If a attorney did call why did they not asked them there name and number or why haven't we received any information from there attorney. I feel as they are just going to keep going around and around with us just to get out of the situation. So I am at the point where I just don't have time for this or care anymore. I even don't care about going to them to ask for the oil change they promised us which in fine print on the square piece of paper they gave us says something about this is voided after 30 days which doesn't make since because oil changes don't need to be done that soo. Plus the guy wrote nothing promised or implied on the paper. They are smarter then we must have been that day . I hope I have answered the questions you needed and  sorry if Ileft anything out we had alot of phone tagging going on with thrifty. I was always calling them asking o speak with ***** and he would never call me so I would only get to speak with ******* or ******.
Thank you for your help ****** *******

Business Response: **** did tell the ******** he would try and get them reimbursed which I declined.  This had nothing to do with their BBB complaint.  I declined to reimburse them because with the threat of legal action, I wanted to make sure we abided by the contract negotiated at the time of purchase.  As I'm sure you know, once we reimburse or repair something not agreed to in the warranty at the time of purchase, we then have an implied warranty for any other issues with the car while they own it.  Per the federal Magnuson Moss  Warranty Act, we must abide by the warranty issued at the time of purchase.   According to the ********, the issue they had was not covered by warranty.  We never got a chance to verify the issue so we don't know if it was covered or not.
We regret the ******** got buyers remorse after the purchase of their vehicle, but still believe we did nothing unethical or illegal.  We will not payoff customers just because they make a threat of legal action or complain to the BBB when we've done nothing wrong.   We've done everything we can to accommodate the ********.  They purchased the vehicle, changed they're mind and didn't want the vehicle and wanted us to take it back.  When we wouldn't they made threats of legal action and complained to the BBB.  We offered to trade them out of the vehicle, which they declined and decided they were OK with it.  They then come back wanting reimbursement for an issue that we never got to verify nor did we authorize repair.  If we have done something wrong, illegal or unethical please let me know, and I will gladly see what we can do to make it right.
Thank you for your involvement on this issue with the ********.  If I can provided you any further information feel free to contact me.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID *******, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Thank you again for all your help. But to clarify or maybe tell Brion we never took legal action or called them or spoke with an attorney. I feel like they are basically making all of this up just to get away with paying for a broken car they gave us. We were told to go have it looked at and had no choice but to get the car fix as soon as possible because it was not in any shape to be driving or there could have resulted in a car accident. I hope that Brion understands were I am coming from because basically he would never talked to me and hear what I had to say and this is why I contacted BBB. But I will just let it go. It's just they said we could not talk to them at all as if we have attorneys which we don't. But thank you again for your help and playing internet and phone tag with them as i am sure you were tired of. I will sure be telling everyone how I feel about thrifty of mountain home how I feel about there business and not let a single person I know go to them. It is a small town and it is what it is. So I just hope nothing every comes of it again with them.  Thank you,

Additional Notes

Complaint: On 24 May 2011, I, purchased a used 2010 Chrysler Town and Country, Touring edition minivan. At the time of purchase the vehicle had 27,164 miles on it. The remained of the manufacturer's warranty was transferred with the purchase. The remainder consisted of 8,836 miles or 24 months. At the time of purchase I was presented with a onetime chance to purchase an extended warranty. This was explained by the financial manager, he offered an extended policy for 24,000 miles or 24 months known as the Four Star Plus. The cost was $1,533.00 and as it was explained would not take effect until the remainder of the manufacturers warranty was complete. Also, at this time it was explained that if I brought the vehicle to the Thrifty Car sales service department $50.00 of the $100.00 would be waived. After numerous mechanical and electronic problems and being told by the service department that they could not deal with those issues, that it must be the dealership I decided to take the vehicle to the dealership and use my extended warranty. I contacted the financial manager at Thrift Car sales who sold me the policy and asked what the deductible was and how I needed to proceed to used it, I was instructed to just take the paperwork to the dealership and give it to them they will do what needs to be done. Once I found the paperwork I read through it looking for the information I requested. At that time I noticed there was an issue and contact the dealership again. This time I specifically asked if my warranty was expired due to it starting the day I purchased the vehicle. The financial manager answered yes and quickly got off of the phone. I waited until the next business day and contacted the owner and explained my situation. I was looking to see if he could explain why I was misled and if he could help me. I was told I will look into it and get back to you. After waiting a few days I contacted the dealership again and never heard anything back. Had this been explained truthfully I would have never purchased this warranty. For the first almost 9,000 miles I had double coverage and it cost me $1,533.00.

Desired Settlement: I would like to have my money back for the warranty that I purchased in the amount of $1,533.00. I have purchased 3 vehicles from this dealership and had never had a problem. I have also recommended many friends and coworkers as well. I am suprised and dissappointed in the handling of this matter. I just want the problem resolved.

Business Response: *** *******
We apologize for not contacting you directly and explaining the situation more thoroughly. The contract administrator was to contact you directly with any possible remedies on their own behalf. A copy of this complaint has been forwarded to the contract administrator.
It is common to have both a service contract and manufacturer’s warranty at the same time on both new and pre-owned vehicles, with most manufacturers’ even offering their own contract at the time of purchase. Service contracts are sold on new cars with zero miles with full manufacturer warranty’s as well as pre-owned vehicles with remaining manufacturer warranty giving them “double coverage” until the manufacturer’s warranty expires. The service contract offers benefits in addition to just repairs coverage that are in effect the date of contract purchase. These include car rental reimbursement, roadside service, trip interruption and the cost of any repairs not covered by manufacturer’s warranty. As stated on the contract, these services are active from the date of contract purchase and run simultaneously with any remaining manufacturer‘s warranty with the manufacturer’s warranty superseding the service contract.
All customers are given the option to purchase an extended service contract at the time of purchase. Only at the time of purchase can the cost of the contract be included in the financing. The price of the contract is determined by the type of coverage desired, length of time desired by the customer, number of miles the customer would like protection and the make, model and mileage of the vehicle being covered. Contracts for vehicles with lower miles and still under manufacturer warranty have a lower cost than vehicles with higher miles and out of manufacturer warranty. The shorter the term and the lower the miles requested by the customer also makes the contract less expensive. Terms run from 6 months of coverage up to 7 years of coverage. Term and mileage for purchased contract is decided by the customer alone. Expiration terms are clearly stated on the bottom of the application page and on page 1 of the customer‘s contract. Before expiration of the contract the customer can make any changes desired, including cancellation. No changes or refunds can be made on an expired contract.
The manufacturer’s warranty supersedes the service contract with any needed repair or claim. The service contract will pay expenses for covered components for vehicles without manufacturing warranty.

Please feel free to contact me with any further questions.
