Complaint
The first roof repair caused more damage. The leak spread through more of the ceiling, inside walls, causing warping and electrical damage and mildew.
Our roof was leaking in the valley causing a small leak in the ceiling. Mr.***** gave us an estimate of ******* with a guarantee it would not leak again. After about three weeks the roof began to leak even more. The leak spread down through the walls, causing base boards and light switch face plates to seperate from the wall. It also caused electical problems and mold and mildew. We called Mr. ***** and he repaired the roof again without any additonal charges, using additional materials that solved the problem. Despite his second repair, we have been left with structural and hazaradous damage to our home. We called our insurance company due to all the damage and they sent out a claims adjustor. Farm Bureau gave us an estimate of ********* in damage.

Desired Settlement
We request that the additonal damage cited by our insurance company be paid for by ***** Roofing as it was not repaired correctly the first time. We feel we should not be financially responsible for the additional damage. Had it been done the first time correctly we wouldn't have all of these issues.

Business Response
Regarding roof repairs:
The home owner called and said he had a leak where a dip was in a plywood joint. We came out and looked at this joint. The homeowner got on the roof with us. The homeowner showed us what he wanted done and that's what we did with the homeowner present on top of the roof when the repairs were being done. Did the repairs, several rains came with no problems, or any response from the homeowner during this time. The homeowner called one morning and said that the roof was leaking again. We went out the same day and evaluated the situation. the husband was not there but his wife was present and allowed us to go inside and see where the roof problem was. we then went on top of the roof checked our repairs that we had done and seen no problems or water underneath what we had done. We then moved further up the roof and found a new leak that was in the valley on the old roof that we did not repair. That is where the new leak was located on a section we did not do. We repaired it at no cost to the homeowner and feel that we are under no obligation for any damages caused by a new leak on a old roof not repaired by us. We then refunded the homeowner a complete refund of his money as we prefer to keep our customers happy. If this problem was caused by us we would have no problem taking care of this situation. The homeowner nor his wife ever called after going back to see what the problem was. Had they called we would have went back on the roof and showed him where this leak was. But unfortunately the homeowners never called. Hoping for a satisfied customer and a way to resolve this professionally.

The roofer came to our home admitting his wrongs...Greeting my wife with "I'm the guy that did the crappy job" He also said " if you remember it was really hot that day and the shingles were hard to come up".When I called roofer for a roof leak in the valley he gave me a estimate on repairing the valley. Yes I was on the roof with him but not to tell him how to do his job. He pointed out a dip midway in the valley, repaired the area and when he was done used a white DAP caulk. I've never seen that used but I'm not a roofer. When he came back he brought roofing tar. Money wasn't the issue when we called to get roof fixed. We were not trying to cut any corners. He did not repair the valley correctly the first time and now it has caused a lot of damages. Before seeing the damages the roofer asked how can he could make it better. Thats when he tried to give the 250.00 back. I told him I wish it was that easy and that now we have other damages. I showed him a quote from my insurance provider for damages. He said give him a chance, he has a friend that's a builder. He took a copy of the quote with the damages. By this time he offered us the refund check again. I told him no, he insisted I take the check, but I told him he could come get it at any time and that we would not cash it. It's been about 2 weeks now and still have his check un-cashed waiting on him to respond. He asked me in front of my wife and our baby sitter to trust him. We trusted him the first time to fix the valley now we have other damages.

Final Business Response
Regard homeowners response, I went to homeowners house, husband nor wife was not there at first. The babysitter was there, she said that someone will be home in a few minutes. The wife came home first and ask who I was, I was the Roofer never once did I say I did a crappy job. The husband got home and I told him that the leak was from above on the old part. Homeowner stated that it could have been fixed and that money was not a issue. I told him that it was hot that day and shingles was hard to get loose, but if the homeowner would also remember when he is up on the roof with us, we was getting the shingles loose to do the repair work. We done exactly what the homeowner told us to do. From the time the first repair was done to the time that the roof leaked was several rains with no leaks. Rain came one night and leaked on old part of roof causing water to spread, we are not responsible for no leaks or damage caused by something we did not do or repair, that is not the fault of our company. The valley was repaired correctly the first time on the part we was told to fix. He showed me a quote that he received from his insurance company, I told him that I knew some people and I would send them his way. I did get a copy of his quote because it is easier to get a quote from someone without having to see the job, that is why I got to quote. As far as the caulking that was put under the main house roof to keep water from running up under the low part. When we went out that morning, we raised all tabs on the part that we had done and found no water. we then went up above the part we had done raised up the shingles in the valley and that is where we found lots of water. We had stuff in our truck to fix it with while we was there,so we fixed it. If the homeowners would have called and asked what we had found, we would not be having this. We would have gladly came back and showed him what we had done and where his leak was. i will also be faxing a lay out of the back side of his house where we have done repairs. You will see the highlighted area is the area we done and an arrow where the new leak is that we did not do. This will clearly show, we are not responsible for no leaks or damages on that house. As far as the refund, we strive for happy customers only, which is why he was giving a full refund. It has nothing to do with fault.

Final Consumer Response
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I see that ***** roofing was a bad choice he came to our home and basically did a terrible job on our roof.He said he was going to make it right and didn't instead he called us liers yes he tried to refund us the original cost but we told him that we would not cash the check and still we have not after looking at his picture you can plainly see that the valley starts at the top and comes down I'm not a roofer but it seems that the leak would also start up higher and settle lower. We have pictures showing that he used much thinner shingles than the existing ones also that he used white caulking on our black roof very unprofessional as he said he came back used black roof tar what he failed to say is he not only put the tar higher is that he also put it on the original job. He took the insurance estimate telling us give him a chance and turned that story around to beware of ***** roofing our next step is court

Desired Settlement
$125.00 of my money. Mr. ***** did replace some shingles but it wasn't 2 bundle as stated on receipt. he used a piece of old wood to fix the part he took loose. He stated 3 weeks ago that he couldn't fix it and would have to give me my money back. Now i have called twice, Secretary said, we'll get him back out. But will not come. Nor answer calls from me on cell phone.

Business Response
In response to case number XXXXXXXX
Last year during the summer of 2013, Mrs. ***** calls and said she has roof problems. She had several leaks on her home. She had two on the main part of the house front and back side, one on the carport bottom right comer in a storage room, and two on a patio. She was given a estimate of 1,500 dollars to do the complete side, she called and stated that she did not have
enough money and would .I repair and if so how much.We agreed on $150.00 dollars. We went out one evening and took some old shingles off to see how much plywood was needed and how many shingles. It was determined that there was two sheets of plywood rotted and two bundle of shingles needed. We went to Sutherland's to get these items need for the job and we came back and done the repairs. It rained and she said it was still one leak on the patio, we came back and fixed it. Several rains later last year, she called and said it was raining on her car. We went back out and upon inspection it was determined that a seam on the roof was not
heated properly, we told her this and also told her that this had nothing to do with the original agreement, but we fixed it anyway and charged her nothing. Told her that the old roof, which is close to 20 years old on the patio side was going to start giving her problems . Out of all the leaks out on her home, we fixed all but one. There is no mention of the leaks on the main part of her house and leak on the bottom right side of the storage room. All these leaks was fixed and never had a complaint. It has rained numerous times this year and also been through 2 snow storms, one ice storm, and no complaints. Now, on places where it was not before is no fault of ours, if we would have done the complete side and not done repairs leaving 7/8 of the old roof on there would be no problems. As water could be running from old part and running down. Last time she called, she said it started leaking again. I told her after everything we have done there was nothing else to be done that I would re:(Und some of her money. There was five leaks in the house at the time and all was fixed but one. Five divided by 150 is 30.00 dollars, which is all I will be returning to her. As the other leaks are no fault of our company . As far as taken advantage of it is us who is being taken advantage of for her wanting us to fix leaks on a old part we did not do the complete side only 1/8th of that side. Thanks for letting me explain.

Consumer Response
After reading his response, everything he put in his letter is a lie. First of all, When I called called him, I told him, i had a leak. The leak was on the outer part of my patio. He did not go to Southerland and get shingles. He had some from a precious job.
Please see attached for remainder of rebuttal. 3 pages.

Final Business Response
In response to second letter from home owner. Nothing that we said in our first letter was a lie. Here's proof. She say's that her car was not being leaked on and that the roof on the carport was only two years old and in perfect condition. Her words not mine. Further down in her letter, how can it be leaking on her car now when her car is parked underneath this two year old roof? Next, yes we did change a sheet of plywood and use two bundles of shingles as the invoice says. As far as rotted wood on the over hang, why did it take eight months to mention this as it was not mentioned to us when we completed the job? There was absolutely no rotted wood put on. Here is what I propose. She say's she wants $125.00 of her money back. If she would let someone of the bbb choosing to go inspect that side of the roof and find only 10 shingles changed as she says and no wood being changed on top. And the roof on the patio, carport side is well over the age of the main house. If all her allegations prove true I will personally hand her a check in the amount of $300.00. I would also like for whoever inspects ask that the storage room door on the carport end be opened and the wood in the far right corner be inspected for leak damage. And if my allegations prove true I want written letter of apology put on the bbb website.

Sincerely yours,
******* *****

Final Consumer Response
After reading the rebuttal letter from Mr. *****, I did call him to let him know that the roof he so called fixed was now leaking on my car under the patio. See attached for remainder of rebuttal. 2 pages.
