Complaint: There is an issue with billing. I have 2 buildings on my property & asked for 2 quotes: 1. for just to cottage in the alley, 2. for both buildings.I was told that the cost for the house in the alley was $750 & the cost for both buildings was for $1,100. When I received the quote for $1,100, I verbally confirmed with the company that quote for $1,100 included. In fact I asked how they could do it so cheaply & they said that because I'm also tenting the 2nd building & because my neighbor also was tenting their property, that I would get a big discount.Instead, they are billing for $1,100 + $750. I would never have agreed to paying $1850 for termite work. The only reason I agreed to treat both buildings is because they told me it would only cost $1,100.I paid the $1,100.00 & wrote them a letter contesting the bill. Their response was to call me & threaten legal action. They informed me that they would add on additional legal fees in an attempt to intimidate me. I was a long term customer that they are just screwing over.
Desired Settlement: I want a reduction in the remaining fee.

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID *******, and have determined that there is NO proposed action to resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID *******, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. There was no offer, instead there was a inaccurate characterization of the events.
I did not call Algon for 3 estimates, I called them for 2 estimates: for my dwelling & my neighbor’s garage. My property has 3 dwellings (with separate addresses) in 2 buildings, a duplex in the front & a unit in the back with 2 garages. The street numbers are: ***** ******** * ****. The only building with an active termite infestation was the unit in the back: ********.
I did not ask for a discount, instead, during the inspection Mr. ******* offered a “good” discount if both my neighbor & I scheduled the treatment for our respective properties for the same day. Based on Mr. ******* offer of a discount, I asked him to give me 2 estimates for my property: 1 for my dwelling & the other for both buildings.
The bid for **** * **** was $1,100 & $750 just for ********* Both buildings are very close in square footage, which is how Mr. ******* told me he calculates the cost of treatment. I would expect the bid to be more than $750 & less than $1,500 ($750 X2), as Mr. ******* told me that if I did my duplex at the same time as unit in the back + my neighbor’s garage, that we would give me a “REALLY GOOD” discount. I telephoned Mr. *******, after receiving the bids & asked him to confirm the amounts and that $1,100 was for both buildings– which he confirmed. He stated that he could give such a good discount because his workmen & equipment would already be onsite.
If he had told me that it would cost $1,100 just to treat the duplex in the front – not only would I decline the 2nd bid, I would have questioned the increase in cost as the 2 buildings are about the same square footage. The square footage for ******** is (40X 28) = 1120. The square footage for the duplex is ( (24 X24) + (9X5) ) X2)= 1242. That translates to a 50% price increase for an 11% increase in square footage.
I don’t understand how anyone would interpret that the address **** * **** wouldn’t include ********, when discussing the 3 addresses on my property. A dash indicates a range, which is consistent with common usage.
I understood the second bid was for both buildings because:
· I asked that the 2 bids be structured – 1 for the unit in the back & 1 of both buildings
· The address on the bid was **** * ****, which is means **** through **** – including **** –1/2
· The pricing of the second bid is more consistent with it being for both buildings: given that the difference in square footage between the 2 buildings is about 11%, yet the bid is about 50% higher.
· Mr. ******* confirmed that the $1,100 bid was for both buildings.
I’ve been a good customer of Algon for over 7 years. I don’t know what’s happened to them, but on this job, they have:
· Mislead me with respect to the bid
· Failed to disclose that last year multiple jobs were burglarized
· Mislead me, my tenants & my neighbor by saying that they hadn’t had any theft or burglary incidents with their past jobs
· Failed to securely lock my doors during treatmentTreated me with a callous attitude of: Tough Luck

THIS LETTER IS BEING WRITTEN IN RESPONSE TO MS. ****** 'S SECOND COMPLAINT. I HAVE ALREADY RESPONDED TO HER INITIAL LETTER REGARDING
THE DISPUTE OVER COST ESTIMATES.
ON 12/30/11 AND 2/7/ 12 WE INSPECTED THE DUPLEX AT ****-**** ****** AND AT THAT TIME WE RECOMMENDED FUMIGATION . ON 3/22/05 AND 10/10/12 WE INSPECTED **** 1/2 ****** AND ALSO RECOMMENDED FUMIGATION. ALL OF THESE REPORTS SHOWED DRYWOOD TERMITES EXTENDING INTO INACCESSIB LE AREAS. MS. ****** ON ALL OF THESE OCCASIONS CHOSE TO LOCALLY TREAT AREAS . LOCAL TREATMENT WAS PERFORMED AS A SECONDARY RECOMMENDATION. THESE BUILDINGS HAVE NEEDED
FUMIGATION FOR YEARS AND MS. ****** IS VERY AWARE OF THAT FACT. TO STATE THAT ONLY ONE BUILDING HAD ACTIVE TERMITES IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO TRUE .
AGAIN AS FAR AS THE ESTIMATES, I AGREE THE BUILDINGS ARE SIMILAR IN SIZE. IF THE BUILDINGS HAD BEEN FUMIGATED AT SEPERATE TIMES THE ESTIMATE WOULD HAVE BEEN $1100.00 FOR EACH BUILDING. THIS REFLECTS A DISCOUNT OF $350.00 FOR BEING FUMIGATED AT THE SAME TIME. IN REGARDS TO HER COMPLAINT REGARDING FUMIGATION BREAK-INS. IT HAS BEEN ALL OVER THE NEWS THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RISE IN FUMIGATION BURGLARIES.
MS. ****** WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THIS AND TALKED ABOUT HIRING A GUARD OR STAYING CLOSE TO HOME DURING THE PROCESS. ALGON EXTERMINATING CO .
IS A LICENSED FUMIGATION COMPANY AND MUST FOLLOW CERTAIN PROCEDURES WHEN FUMIGATING. ALL DOORS AREA LOCKED DURING FUMIGATION WITH SECONDARY LOCKS SO THAT EVEN THE OWNER/TENANT CAN NOT ENTER WITH THEIR KEY.
WE ARE GOING TO TAKE ***** ****** TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT FOR THE BALANCE DUE AND LET A JUDGE DECIDE. WE WILL INFORM THE BBB OF THE OUTCOME.
