Complaint: I called a locksmith over the weekend to see if they install gate handles. I was told they did and they would give a free estimate Monday. When the gentleman came I told him I wanted to put a handle in the gate with a double lock. I told him it was rusted under the metal plates and asked him to make holes in the plates. He then told me he would take the metal plates off; I requested he not do so, as it was rusted under . He quoted me a price of $200. I then went inside to take care of my 3 kids under the age of 3 years old and had my husband follow up. My husband thought he was taking the metal plates off to make the holes, and gave the verbal go-ahead. He instead left the plates off, and declared the job complete. I went out and questioned this gentleman about it. I pointed out that I did not want it that way, since the rusted metal was now exposed and hazardous to our kids. He told me I was "ridiculous." If I wanted him to make the proper holes in the plates it would be an extra $80, which he said he would give me for $60. He also told me he would make only one hole for free leaving the medal plate hanging (a safety hazard). I rejected this option, and told him I don't have any more money for added charges. He then advised me to get a handyman to fix it, knowing I do not have a handyman, and had called them expecting professional . I showed him the now-exposed rusted metal- a safety hazard- and explained this was the point of the metal plates. I then called the store where I talked to *****, who told me that *** did the work and had promised us he would have drilled the holes and reattached the plates properly for free. *** was being untruthful. My husband and I have called to try to get them out to fix the gate. ***** was very rude to my husband and I, declared that she cannot instruct *** to complete the work without our paying him extra for additional labor and a visit, and can do nothing as their supervisor is out of the country until 8/1.
Desired Settlement: I would like them to come, drill all the holes on the medal plates and reattach them with the handle and the double lock (as should have been done in the first place).
Business Response: While we are not in agreement regarding the events that took place on this day, we have re-installed the original gate plates and removed our hardware and have issued a total complete refund to the customer.
Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, We will be done with the company. I don't feel its the best solution but its best for the company and I just want to be done with them.
