Complaint: In march 2010 we were sold a hot water heater , a rubber solar mat about 4feet by 10 feet and duct seal at a cost of over 9000 dollars. Americas Solar/ Woodcrest Development were the sellers. ***** ***** represents Woodcrest. His phone number is ************. We were told that the savings each month would pay the payment each month. We have been paying 143.00 a month for 4 years now to Viewtech Financial,and still owe 7500.00.We did receive approximately 2700 dollars grant and rebate money, and we only spent about 1000.00 of that toward payments. I feel like we were duped. We are paying 18% interest, and we were told they would help us refinance the loan after one year at a lower interest rate through Wells Fargo, but that never happened. I am involved in a Debt Consolidation Program. They represent me and have renegotiated my interest rates on my credit cards ect; View tech Financial refuses to negotiate and still wants 18%. I feel like we were taken advantage of, and are overpaying an astronomical amount for what we received. It does not feel like it is even helping our utility bills.

Desired Settlement: I wish they would agree to a lower interest rate through our debt consolidation reps. I am willing to pay for my stupid mistake in getting suckered in to this scam, but I feel like they should work with me. I am now voluntarily paying them 185 a month instead of 143 but they still want 18% interest. I feel like I will never get this payed off.

Business Response:

I have received your complaint and would be happy to discuss personally.  However, I think it is important to clarify the details of your financing.  First, your interest rate is not 18%, it is 14.99%.  This was the rate that you agreed to with the financing of the solar hot water heater through the contractor you selected.  Second, this is a closed-end, fixed rate, fixed term installment agreement.  This means if you pay your monthly payments on time over the full term, you will have paid off your account at the end of such term.  Given that you are paying more than your minimum payment, this account will be paid in full prior to the initial maturity date.  
Also, I reviewed the notes on your account, and there is no notations that you personally have called our offices and requested a rate reduction.  Rather, we have a "settlement offer" from the debt company you are working with.  As mentioned above, I'd be happy to discuss this with your personally, you may reach me by calling our office phone number (which you have) and asking for *** ********* at extension ***.

BBB's Final Determination: Business offered a resolution. Consumer did not pursue further with BBB and the matter was assumed to be resolved
