CONSUMER ALERT: Air Duct Cleaning Services Telemarketing

May 24, 2013

The Better Business Bureau serving Saskatchewan warns consumers to be aware that there is an active telemarketing initiative targeting residential telephone numbers in Saskatchewan. The CEO for the BBB has received two telephone solicitations at his home with the most recent occurring at 7:10 p.m. on May 23. The calls have come from individuals claiming to represent Air Duct Cleaning Services, using an identified phone number (306) 225-5544 which if called back is identified as not in service. An internet search of the phone number does not yield much information.

When questioned as to the location of the business the caller indicated it was based in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The caller did not provide a name. The first call came from a female, while the second call came from a male. When questioned about providing information about a Direct Sellers license for the business the callers hang up. Telemarketers calling Saskatchewan consumers on an unsolicited basis at residential telephone numbers require a Direct Sellers License. The Consumer Protection Division of the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority has confirmed that they have not received any application for a Direct Sellers license from a business using this name.

Research by the BBB is unable to locate any business in Moose Jaw or elsewhere in Saskatchewan with the name Air Duct Cleaning Services, confirmed that there is no such business holding a municipal business license in either Moose Jaw or Regina, and that the Corporate Registry database does not have a record of any business named “Air Duct Cleaning Services.” The website “” records a number of consumer comments identifying this phone number which is also linked to a similar named business, Superior Duct Cleaning. The BBB believes the telemarketing is a scam, likely employing computer controlled auto-dialing software, and possibly based off-shore. It is highly likely the telephone number used is spoofed. The BBB believes that should any consumers attempt to transact with the alleged business, the consumers are likely to be disappointed, scammed, or otherwise victimized.

If the business is legitimate and does exist it is not complying with provincial and municipal legal requirements, and accordingly consumers should avoid transacting with the business.

The BBB recommends that consumers:

  • Ignore such calls if you have caller ID, but write the number down so it can be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at its toll free number 1 (888) 495-8501
  • Hang up on the caller if you happen to answer your phone.
  • Ask for a copy of their Direct Sellers License.
  • Ask for a copy of their municipal business license.
  • Ask for the address of the Registered Office in Saskatchewan for the business.
  • If you want the air ducts in your home cleaned, initiate the process by calling legitimate local businesses.

If a consumer or business has any questions regarding these calls or calls of a similar nature, please contact the Better Business Bureau of Saskatchewan at (306) 352-7601 or toll free to 1 (800) 352-7601.
