Ive been going to this office for years and having *** ******* do my taxes. Nice people but unfortunately they made a big mistake on my taxes for 2015. I had several conversations with Joe regarding being able to claim the percentage I had my son on my taxes. He informed me that I would not be able to because I didn't have him full time so I said ok. I then asked about being able to claim child care and they said yes I would just have to get the social security number of the child care provider so I did. When I finally went in to do my taxes we touched on the subject again then he asked **** if I could claim the child care and he said yes. I ended up having to go home and get my closing statement for my mortgage so when I got back I was passed **** to **** to finish my taxes. While I was giving him the child care provider info he asked me for my sons social which I though was weird and he said the IRS needed all information when claiming childcare because otherwise everyone would claim it. When everything was done I was happy I was getting so much money back but I thought it was because of the interest paid on my mortgage. Little did I know he added my son as a dependent. I was never asked during the entire process if I wanted to add any dependents, only child care. Today I got a call from my sons mother who was upset and accusing me of fraudulently claiming our son on my taxes which I explained I never did. I then called Pronto but Joe was busy so I spoke with a woman who looked at my file and informed me that my son was in fact claimed as a dependent on my taxes. I immediately went to the office to try and resolve this issue. After a long wait I finally spoke to *** and explained my situation. He admitted he remembered all the conversations we had about me being able to claim my son. He then checked my file and confirmed my son was claimed and I asked what was going to happen and he said the file would be amended and sent to the IRS but now I would owe over 2,000.00 back to them. I explained this was not fair because I never wished to claim my son on my taxes and that it wasn't my fault. He said "I know its our fault but thats what you have to do". I was absolutely amazed they admitted fault but were willing to do nothing to help rectify the situation. I think what happened was when my file got passed ** **** he wasn't 100% aware of my situation and accidentally added my son as a dependent. I explained I was extremely disappointed and had been coming to them for years not to mention have sent referrals. All I ended up getting was a "sorry" and now I am in trouble with the IRS. What I don't like about this is its going to look bad on my record not to mention I have to now pay back money when I went to a professional who I trusted. I know some people will say well you should have looked at your paperwork but isn't that the whole point of going to a tax guy? To get professional help and not have to worry about it. After this I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and contacting an attorney to see what I can do about this because I should not be responsible for paying that money back to the IRS since it wasn't my fault. Needless to say neither me or anyone I know will be returning to this company for our tax needs.

I would like them to fully handle the situation with the IRS and take responsibility for their mistake which resulted in me having to pay money back which I should not have owed.

We are sorry to hear about the miscommunication that occurred with this client's experience, we take a lot of pride in giving great service and when something is not to the client's satisfaction we take it very seriously . We have also communicated directly with the client and tried to do everything we can to remedy the situation. The client's request that we "take responsibility" seems to imply that we should somehow pay his taxes that result from not having his son as a dependent, it is not possible for us to meet this request, but we certainly do take responsibility for our part in providing a less than perfect experienced.
