Complaint: I rented a vacation rental from coastal choice for a one week stay in san diego. When I arrived there was major construction going on in the two houses 15 feet in front of us blocking our promised ocean view, the noise was unbearable all 7 days of my family's vacation. When I viewed pictures of the unit on their website there was no construction being done to the houses right in front of us, and there was no mention that there was major construction going on. They even made me sign a noise ordance allowing them to evict me if I was at all loud. I couldnt even hear my family talking out side of our unit, and could barely hear ourselfs inside the unit. I talked to the owner and he admitted that he knew about the construction over 5 weeks ago. My point is that coastal choice should have informed me that this was going on before I spent $1500 for a vaction I could not enjoy. I could have rented several houses in both directions from me for the same price if not cheaper and would not have had to listen to the construction. They knew about it and did nothing to warn me or offer a discount. Here is the listing online you can see the balcony view free of construction: **********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************,I have attached a picture that I took of the same view.

Desired Settlement: I would like to see a partial refund of half of the rental cost, $750.

Business Response: To Whom it May Concern,

Coastal Choice Properties understands the customers complaint and feels that it is valid. We would like to offer them a $500 refund and a 20% discount on a future stay to be used within a year from today's date. It was never our intention to mislead the customer and we would like them to come back and enjoy the property to its full potential. The construction was supposed to be completed before the summer began. Unfortunately, it is not our property and thus out of our control. However, with that said we do value our customers and would like the opportunity to earn back their future business. We hope this offer will be acceptable to them. Please feel free to call me with any questions, ******* ********* *** *** ****

Additional Notes

Complaint: We rented a vacation rental from 9/6/11-9/9/11. We arrived to the rental **** *** ******** ***** between 10:30pm-11:00. When we arrive there were several things we were unsatisfied with 1) we could not get the garage door open so we had to find street parking 2) when we got to the apartment, it was not clean and 3)there were no sheets on all the beds and all the dirty towels and sheets were piled by the bathroom. I called ************ several times however no one answered. The check in instructions stated we could call this number for emergencies. We left several messages but no on returned our call that evening. Since there were no clean sheets, we had to wash everything in the middle of the night - we had 3 families total and 3 young children (11 mo, 2 y/o & 4 y/o). It was difficult because we couldn't put the kids to bed until the place was wiped down/swept and until the sheets were washed. ******* (I believe this is her name) called the following morning and she apologized because there was a miscommunication. She informed me she "does not do business this way" and would refund us for the one night stay. About a month later, we got our refund however we were $35 short. I called the following day to ask about the deposit and the refund. No one returned my call. We are still waiting for an explanation on our deposit and still waiting for our refund for the one night. Before we left the rental, we ensured everything was clean and put away. We left it cleaner than how it was when we arrived.

Desired Settlement: We would like our full refund back - if for some reason they had to take out $35 we would like an explanation. We would also like a refund for the one night stay ******* agreed to.

Business Response:

To Whom it May Concern,

We are in receipt of the customers complaint.  The customer is correct they are owed a refund of $276.25 because the property was not clean upon their arrival. We are not sure why it was not refunded or why their phone calls were not returned. We would like to apologize for the clerical errors and the lack of good customer service. Please let the customer know that a credit has been made to their card ending in ****. The $35.00 deduction from their security deposit was due to their check being returned NSF. It is our company policy deduct the NSF fee from their deposit.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at ************.

BBB's Final Determination: Business offered a resolution. Consumer did not pursue further with BBB and the matter was assumed to be resolved
