Additional Notes

Complaint: Bank in October 3, I went to PermaDontics for a dental implant consultation and possibly a surgery. I was quoted $13,095 for 2 lower-jaw implants. Prior to this lower-jaw quote, I was quoted over $24K for full upper dental implant. Hesitant to proceed with the surgery due to the sky-rocketing fee, I signed and agreed to their terms and condition upon settling a considerate installment payments. With this agreement, I signed for a $2,500 non-refundable deposit. The surgery was scheduled on the same month but I called and had the surgery scheduled for February 2014. This will give me enough time to save for the surgery. I informed my contact - ***** that I needed time to think things if I should go on with the procedure and save plenty of time and money in able to pay for the fee.

Fast forward, I lost my job last December 6. I called ***** and informed her of my situation. After I stated my case, she gently informed me that deposits are non-refundable. I informed her that I know that for a fact but I was hoping with my case, I could get my money back - at least 1/2 of it. She put me on hold for about 5 minutes and came back to me that she needed to ask her manager about this and will get back to me. Since I have not heard from her, I decided to visit the clinic Wednesday, December 11 morning and asked to speak to ******s manager. After waiting for over 30 minutes, I was able to speak to *****’s Manager (forgot her name). She informed me that with my case, they will give back $1,275 and keep the other half for future procedure.

She also informed me that I will get the check by mail come Friday. Up to date, I have not received the money yet. I intend to follow up Tuesday, December 24 morning. Even after I get 1/2 of my money back, I’ve decided not to have my procedure with this clinic in the future. Them being inconsiderate of my case and cares only of them making money, I will never come back to them and will let my friends and family know how they are with such patient like me.

Desired Settlement: I would like to ask for BBB's assistance in getting the rest of my money back.

Business Response:

Dear *******

Our goal at The PermaDontics Center is to always provide the best quality care to our dental implant patients and we are sorry to hear that you are unsatisfied with the level of service you received.

As we discussed in our meeting in December, we understand that you are not able to move forward with your dental implant procedure due to the change in your employment status and are sympathetic to your situation.

You will recall that we explained during your initial consultation in October 2013, and again in December that the non-refundable $2,500 deposit was necessary to pay for the dental impressions of your mouth, which we use to pre-plan your dental implant procedure, and to cover our time in planning your procedure.  As you know, the planning phase of your procedure was already completed prior to your requesting a refund.  This means that the money had already been spent and the work had already been done.

In order to resolve this situation in a positive manner, we decided to absorb some of these hard costs and refund half of this $2,500 non-refundable deposit.  We did this in the hopes that it would provide an equitable solution to this matter.  We are sorry to hear that you remain unsatisfied.

As a further means of recompense, we would like to offer you the opportunity to continue your dental implant procedure at some point in the next year at the previously agreed upon fee.  (You may keep the refunded portion of the security deposit.)  Your case is already planned and we are prepared to move forward.  We would like to continue to serve you and welcome the opportunity to help you with your dental needs.

We hope this offer helps rectify this situation.

Consumer Response: Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID *******, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Please convey to them that their response was highly appreciated.
I have agreed to their terms of using the 1/2 of my deposit for future surgery (upon their suggestion) but at this point, every penny counts for unemployed individual like me. They should understand and be fully sympathetic on such cases.
I have worked on a customer service industry and part of my job was understanding the other person's situation. I have refunded a lot of deposits because of the customer's loses (whether loved ones or otherwise). This may not be good for business but this is the only way to sympathize/support them and still keep the company in mind for future business.
I've understood the fact that they've spent for the cast and X-ray and all that, but this will be nothing compare to the money they're making (and the sky-rocketing fees they charge their clients). It's an expense they will be able to recover in a nick of time.
Unfortunately, I do not have any more plans of doing dental implants, whether with Permadontics or elsewhere. This is something I cannot financially afford, employed or not.

If they could just give the rest of my money, I will move on and pretend this never happened. I will never mentioned Permadontics to anybody whether good or bad comment.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ******** and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

It seems Permadontics will not return the rest of my deposit however persistent I may be. This is harsh on my part being unemployed. The only thing I could request from BBB is to let the consumers know how totally inconsiderate the clinic is to their patient. Then I will rest my case and let nature takes it's course back on them. I strongly believe what comes around goes around.

Thank you very much for all the help assisted.
