DoD, FTC, CFPB, Military Saves and others launch campaign to support servicemembers, veterans and military families
BBB Military Line joins today with dozens of federal, state and private sector organizations for the first Military Consumer Protection Day, a joint initiative “to empower active duty and retired servicemembers, military families, veterans and civilians in the military community.” The event, which kicks off a year-long campaign, includes the Department of Defense, the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and Military Saves, along with the FINRA Investors Education Foundation, the attorneys general from eight states, and more than a dozen other groups.
“BBB Military Line is proud to support this effort,” says Brenda Linnington, director of BBB Military Line. “We see so many scams and frauds aimed directly at members of the military and their families, and it’s unconscionable that anyone would take advantage of someone who willingly risks their life for our country. Working together, with major organizations in both the public and private sectors, we can do so much more to stop it.”
BBB Military Line assists military consumers with complaints, serving as the liaison between members of the military and the 113 local Better Business Bureaus across the United States and Canada. In the first half of this year, BBB Military Line assisted more than 10,000 servicemembers, veterans and family members with both complaints against legitimate businesses and problems with scams and fraud.

Military&Money, a free iPhone app created by McGraw-Hill to help military members make smart decisions about finances.
Kiplinger-BBB Financial Field Manual, a publication available online or in print to help service members prepare for deployment, buy a home, minimize taxes and avoid scams.

BBB Military Line is also a charter member of the DoD Financial Readiness Campaign, launched in 2003, and Joining Forces, launched in 2011.
