RICHMOND, VA –Better Business Bureau Serving Central Virginia will host on May 7th, 8:30 a.m., at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, “A Broader Approach: The Bigger Picture of Charity Accountability” presented by BBB Wise Giving Alliance President and CEO H. Art Taylor. Attending will be leaders of local businesses, nonprofits, foundations and donors.
Last year, BBB Wise Giving Alliance, GuideStar and Charity Navigator penned an open letter to the donors of America about what really matters when deciding which charity to support. The percent of charity expenses that go to administrative and fundraising costs—commonly referred to as “overhead” — is a poor measure of a charity’s performance. Transparency, governance, leadership and results are the key factors too often overshadowed by expense ratios. In this historic move, the country’s three leading sources of information on nonprofits have asked donors for their help in eradicating the “Overhead Myth” once and for all.
