Charity Reporting News

June 26, 2012

Charity reporting has been an integral part of the BBB since our early decades, and your BBB serving Central Virginia has had a local Charity Reporting Service for many years.  The non-profit community in Central Virginia, like our business community, is a vibrant and diverse force in the region.  As more and more consumers and businesses turn to us for information on charitable organizations, we are renewing our efforts to grow this valuable program locally.  Like all the services supported by our Accredited Businesses and Charity Seal Holders, the local Charity Reporting Service is yet another way in which your BBB is able to share information with the public.

The BBB Wise Giving Alliance’s 20 Standards of Charity Accountability measure charities on how they govern their organizations, the ways they spend their money, the truthfulness of their representations, and their willingness to disclose basic information to the public.  We ask local charities to be evaluated when consumers request information, or when the charities come to us and ask to participate.  Please visit for more information on our local charity reports, national charities evaluated by BBB Wise Giving, tips on giving wisely, and a wealth of other information.

As we work to expand the program, our office is reaching out to local organizations to tell them more about this service and invite them to participate in our evaluation.  If an organization you support is not evaluated by our office, please contact Benjamin Barbour, Charity and Trade Practices Analyst, at, or (804) 648-0030.  Please take advantage of the information our Charity Reporting Service is able to provide; like all our services, your support makes this possible!
