BBB Wise Giving Alliance’s mission is to help donors give with confidence by evaluating charities against 20 rigorous accountability standards and strengthen trust in the charitable sector. Locally, BBB serves that mission by evaluating organizations in our service area actively soliciting donations from the public.  An organization must meet all BBB Wise Giving Standards for Charity Accountability to be accredited by BBB.  During the evaluation process the organization provides extensive information to verify compliance with these voluntary standards, and may take additional steps as needed to meet all 20.

The benefits of BBB's local Charity Information Service include:

  • No-cost evaluation for charities aspiring to meet industry best practices.
  • Helps donors in making informed giving decisions through BBB Charity Reports.
  • Provides general information about charitable giving and the nonprofit sector.
  • Recognizes local Accredited Charities and Seal Holders in local print media and in frequently updated lists shared with thousands of local businesses and consumers each year.
  • Promotes transparency and self-regulation in the nonprofit sector through voluntary standards of accountability.

BBB works with local organizations to determine that they meet the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability. Once an evaluation is complete, the resulting report summarizes a charity’s mission, program activities, leadership and finances. BBB Charity Reports provide potential donors with an accessible overview of local nonprofits and demonstrates their commitment to ethics and transparency.
