Coastal Federal Credit Union Sponsors BBB ID Protection Event

April 10, 2013
Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina announces today that Coastal Federal Credit Union is serving as presenting sponsor of the “Secure Your ID” Day event on Saturday, April 20, 2013. The local shredding and electronics recycling event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Coastal's headquarters at 1000 St. Albans Drive in Raleigh.

Coastal remains committed to active involvement in the communities it serves, as well as helping consumers protect their identities. This is the tenth consecutive “Secure Your ID Day” event the organization has sponsored and the sixth time it will host the event at its headquarters.

“We take pride in supporting BBB through its identity protection initiatives,” says Chuck Purvis, president and CEO of Coastal Federal Credit Union. “I encourage area residents to take part in this event, both as a way to safely destroy sensitive documents, as well as to learn how to be vigilant in protecting personal information.”

During the event, local shredding partners, PROSHRED® Security and A Shred Ahead® will provide free, on-site document shredding. Participants are encouraged to bring up to three boxes or bags of sensitive documents that have been removed from binders. GEEP will also be on hand to provide electronics recycling including computers, tablets, and cell phones, as well as electrical devices like TVs, microwaves and vacuums. BBB and Coastal will provide tips and resources to help consumers protect their identity.

“Coastal continues to be a champion to consumers in the Triangle and throughout North Carolina,” says Toby Barfield, president and CEO of BBB serving Eastern North Carolina. “We are thankful to have them alongside us in spotlighting the importance of identity protection.”

BBB has hosted its “Secure Your ID” Day events locally since April 2008. Curtis Media Group stations WPTF, 96.9 BZJ and Funny 570 are serving as promotional partners for the event. Additional information is available at
