A Shred Ahead® and PROSHED® Partner with BBB to Help Fight Identity Theft

April 08, 2013
Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina announces today that PROSHRED® Security and A Shred Ahead® are sponsoring the “Secure Your ID” Day event on Saturday, April 20, 2013. The two companies will provide free document shredding from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Coastal Federal Credit Union headquarters on St. Albans Drive in Raleigh.

Based in Durham, North Carolina, the local, family owned A Shred Ahead is the largest independent shredding company in the south. PROSHRED is also locally owned and is part of a nationally operated network that offers on-site document destruction and recycling services to businesses and consumers.

“As identity theft concerns continue to grow, shredding personal documents is a simple, yet effective, way to reduce the risk of becoming a victim,” says Jim Klemes, PROSHRED® general manager.

“The ‘Secure Your ID’ Day event is a great resource for Triangle residents,” says John Chapman, co-owner of A Shred Ahead. “We are honored to partner with BBB in protecting people from identity theft.”

Participants are encouraged to bring up to three boxes or bags of documents that have been removed from binders. In addition to free document shredding, GEEP will be collecting electric and electronic devices for secure destruction with the metal and plastic components being recycled. BBB and other partner organizations will also provide tips and resources to help consumers protect their identity.

“Secure Your ID” Day is jointly organized by the Council of Better Business Bureaus and the National Foundation for Credit Counseling to raise public awareness and educate Americans on the issues surrounding identity theft. During the event, local partner Costal Federal Credit Union will be on hand educating consumers on protecting their identity. Curtis Media Group stations WPTF, 96.9 BZJ and Funny 570 are serving as promotional partners for the event. Additional event information is available at www.easternnc.bbb.org/secure-your-id.
