    My husband and I are relocating from this area for health and safety reasons. He found a new job out of state and we are now in the moving process. When we first brought up our desire to leave the area and terminate the lease (due to health and safety reasons) they initially told us that we would be required to pay for the whole lease. So, every month we would pay rent for a place we do not live in. We found a way to still be financially capable of leaving due to the severity of the problem involving my health and safety in this location. After we signed the notice to vacate papers, we were the informed of an additional 10% of monthly rent fee to be paid monthly for the purpose of paying their agent fees and advertising to re-rent the property. We informed them that this was not in the lease, after they claimed it was and read to them what was said. They then claimed that it doesn't matter that its not in the lease, this is just how it works and its due to the owner's agreement with the company they had without our knowledge. We have informed them that we are not legally obligated to pay the fees as its not in the lease and we agreed to paying the rest of the rent as stated in the contract. They were very condescending and rude and said it would just be better for us as then they can get it rented. The lease explicitly says it is the landlord's responsibility to re-rent the property and not the tenant's. They told us they would waive the fee if we found a new tenant promptly. I have already asked if this was legal and was informed that it isn't and we aren't obligated to pay that fee in our state since it is not stated in the lease. I would like this resolved and for there to be consequences for trying to scam us out of even more money when we are already much more inconvenienced by this move than the landlord or company is. To add clarity. We can not email Sue Crudas due to their business decisions, so this conversation I mentioned was through a phone call.
